Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

David Whitcomb

Assistant Center Director
If you stop by the Center, you'll have the opportunity to meet and talk with David, our Assistant Center Director. Since 2020, David has worked at Mathnasium of Bethesda in various capacities, including as an instructor, and now as Assistant Center Director. David is a highly skilled mathematician, who studied Linguistics at the University of Maryland. David believes that learning math is not only a valuable skill in its own right, but can help teach students how to think logically, solve problems analytically, and be aware of their own thought processes. This mindfulness has nearly unlimited applications and David hopes that by learning math students gain an appreciation for the skills it develops. His goal is to instill in students a love of learning and for the lessons they learn in Mathnasium to stick with them well beyond their time with the program.

James Sullivan

Assistant Center Director - @Home
If your student has an opportunity to work in our @Home environment, they will be lucky enough to meet James! James is one of our most experienced Mathnasium instructors, and leads all instructional staff in the @Home platform. James' educational background includes an undergraduate focus on pre-med, with some engineering courses mixed in. His attraction to math began at an early age, but has only grown as he's learned more about what has been accomplished with math. James believes that math can be appreciated through something as basic as realizing that smartphones wouldn't exist without it, to something as complex as the fascinating explanation of the physical world and it's natural forces. We are thrilled that James feels that working at Mathnasium has been one of the most rewarding jobs he's had! Getting to witness kids learn to develop an appreciation for math as their skills and confidence grow gives James hope for the future - as he truly feels that math has the potential to help solve many future world problems through its application in technology and medicine.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
