Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn! Read below to learn more about our talented team:
Cory Mims, Center Director
Cory graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. As a student growing up in Southern California Cory would tutor and mentor kids. After college, he developed a passion for helping students achieve their goal and giving them tools to be successful in life. Over the past 5 years, he has had the pleasure of working with various organizations in the Los Angeles Area supporting and teaching adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Seeing students achieve the “aha” moment of understanding their work makes his day.
Melanie, Assistant Director
Melanie is thrilled to be part of the Beverly Hills team and share her knowledge of and passion for mathematics. She is a graduate of New York University with a BA in Mathematics and a BFA in Drama, where she was a volunteer assistant teacher for the Tisch School of the Arts. Since graduating, she has worked as a freelance educator in the arts for kids and adults alike, and most recently was an Instructor at the Mathnasium of Roland Park (in her hometown of Baltimore, MD) for a year before moving to the West Coast in July 2016. Outside of Mathnasium, she is pursuing acting, stage combat, and stuntwork. She will also most likely ask if she can pet your dog if she meets them.
Gabriel is a senior at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has always loved math since he was a child and he loves to solve the difficult problems. Gabriel scored a 5 on the AP BC Calculus Exam in high school. Currently, he is majoring in Psychology with the intentions of moving into a field where he can work with kids. Gabriel’s hobbies include doing origami, playing basketball, and playing video games.
Lauren is currently attending the University of California, Los Angeles and is pursuing a degree in Psychobiology. She desires to become a teacher and has a passion for the art of delivering information, which is a skill she hopes to strengthen and share through Mathnasium. She hopes to eventually gain access to the administration of the education system to help eradicate inequalities in public school education. Lauren is passionate about drumming, which she started in high school marching band, and singing. She is an avid reader in her spare time, and especially loves spending time with her family and friends.
Asad is currently a first year student at Santa Monica College. He hasn’t currently decided on what he would like to study in college, but he thoroughly enjoys math and science. He was born and raised in West Los Angeles, and wishes to travel as much as he possibly can. He has been working with children for more than a year now, which started off as babysitting. He has discovered that when teaching children you often learn as much, if not more, than them. He enjoys the challenge that mathematics brings, and has always taken the most demanding courses offered to test himself. Outside of Mathnasium, you can find Asad playing basketball or hanging out with his friends and family.
My name is Ashwin, and I'm a first year Computer Science and Engineering student at UCLA. I hope to double major in applied math because I really love math! I love working with kids at Mathnasium because they're eager to learn and always try their best, which makes my work so rewarding. I also like to dance and play tennis in my free time.
Kayla graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering from USC. While at USC, she volunteered at 4 local schools over 7 grades through different organizations, teaching math, science, and computer science. She love working with kids, and she loves learning. In her free time, she likes to paint wacky, abstract things, and play classical music on the saxophone.
