Meet the Team at Mathnasium of Boerum Hill

Yesenia Castelan

Yesenia grew up enjoying math and the sciences. She was actively involved in STEM related activities throughout her life, from participating in science projects to tutoring kids in math and wanted to be more involved in math education. After graduating with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and a minor in Spanish & Hispanic Studies, Yesenia began tutoring Algebra and Pre-Calculus to incoming college students and has always loved the positive impact she had on being involved in a student’s math education. She believes any student can excel in Math and enjoys keeping it fun and exciting so that students can build their confidence and love math as much as she does.

James Hink

James graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a BS in Mathematics as well as an All-Conference Rugby Player. Shortly after moving to the city, he was hired as an instructor at Mathnasium in 2019 and moved to the management team in 2021. At the beginning of 2022, he was promoted to the position of Educational Director for both the Brooklyn Heights and Boerum Hill centers. Growing up, he would always hear how math was never the favorite subject of his peers. This usually led him to helping those who were struggling and to find a way to help them better understand the material in a fun and engaging manner. James believes that with the right mindset and practice, anyone can succeed in math! If he is not at work, he is probably spending time with his cats, Franklin and Penelope.
