Jonathan

Jonathan holds a Bachelor's of Science from Case Western Reserve University and a Master's of Science from the University of Cincinnati, both in Pure Mathematics.  Jonathan grew up in Ohio and moved to California after earning his Master's degree.  He has nine years of experience in tutoring mathematics and enjoys teaching others.  His experience ranges from 1-on-1 tutoring, to teaching in small groups and larger classroom settings.  Jonathan has always been very passionate about math and hopes through teaching he can pass on that passion to his students.  His favorite mathematical subjects are Complex Analysis, Number Theory, and Abstract Algebra because of the beauty and fascinating properties of the material.  His outside hobbies include playing basketball, playing video games, and wood working.

Philip

I am a recent UCLA graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Physiology. Although my career aspirations are in the field of medicine, mathematics has contributed to my love of science and allowed me to enjoy a hobby of programming. For me, the beauty of mathematics is comparable to the human body: it is ordered, it is symmetrical, and every part of it has a definite purpose. I have always enjoyed taking math classes and tutoring my peers, that they might see this same beauty and utility. When I am not programming or pursuing my medical aspirations, I enjoy helping my church and learning how to play my favorite rock songs on guitar.

Zenia

Zenia recently graduated from UCLA with a BA in Psychology and a minor in mathematics. Although she thoroughly enjoyed studying and learning about the human mind and how it affects human behavior, she could not let go of her interest in math. The math classes at UCLA definitely put to test her math skills and many times experienced a love-hate-relationship with math. She sees math like a puzzle; it is frustrating when you are trying to figure it out and understand how to put the pieces together, but once they all click together it brings great joy. She wishes to help other students understand and see math from a different perspective. This way they can work through that frustration and share in some of the joy she gets from the subject. Zenia’s next career step may be getting her teaching credentials to become a high school math teacher. Therefore, she is happy to have the opportunity to work at Mathnasium in order to help students and to get more exposure to teaching.

In addition to studying math, Zenia enjoys swimming, salsa dancing and dark chocolate. She also spends her Sunday mornings going on hikes. Her favorite movies are Pretty Women and The Matrix trilogy. Her favorite books are Gone with the Wind and The Harry Potter series. She has visited Guatemala, Alaska, South Carolina and wishes to one day be able to see London and Barcelona.  Zenia was born and raised in the Valley, but her ethnicity is half-Mexican, half-Guatemalan and speaks Spanish fluently.

   Genderzon

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, in the Korea Town neighborhood. I attended John H Francis Polytechnic high school in Sun Valley, where I first decided that I wanted to study math and physics. In high school, I ran the 100-meter, 200-meter, and Triple Jump events for our track and field team, co-founded an eco-conscious club to help our school produce less waste and promote recycling among the student body, and was a member of our school's Science Bowl team. After graduating high school, I attended Whitman College, located in Walla Walla, WA, where -I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Astronomy. During my college years, I spent time exploring the Pacific Northwest, regularly going on camping trips with friends. Since graduation, I have been working as an educator in Math, Physics, and Engineering.

I'm interested in studying Einstein's Theory of General Relativity describing gravity and plan to pursue a Ph.D. in Astrophysics. I like to spend time playing video games, reading comic books, and exploring the great city of Los Angeles through hikes and bike rides. I love visiting my extended family living in Guatemala, where I grow closer to them, to my heritage, practice my Spanish speaking skills, and experience great sights and flavors.
