Mathnasium’s TriMathlon contest is designed to encourage kids to engage in math and to support local schools. Children at all levels of math ability were invited to participate. In addition to winning medals, all students who participated this year earned money for local schools and also received fun goody bags.
The competition, open to second through fifth grade students, was Oct. 17 at Cedar Rapids Mathnasium Learning Center on Fountains Dr. Participation was free. 50 local students participated earning $500 for local schools.
“Mathnasium’s TriMathlon provides a wonderful opportunity for kids to engage in math in a fun way that also gives back to the community. We’re proud to support this event and inspire more kids to develop a love for math.” says Jeanne Giles, owner
The TriMathlon consists of three events: Magic Squares, Counting Game, Mental Math Workout.
Students do not need to be enrolled in a Mathnasium center to participate. Prep materials, including a practice test, were available on the Mathnasium TriMathlon website (www.mathnasiumtrimathlon.com). Participants will have money donated to their local schools. Mathnasium is targeting an aggregate donation of about $40,000 throughout the U.S. and Canada.
