Sue Kwon, Owner/Chief Education Officer

Sue, a certified Texas educator has over 18 years of experience in teaching. She is certified to teach Math as well as Composite Social Studies in Texas. As a math tutor in college, she enjoyed helping middle and high school students develop a solid understanding of fundamental math concepts and skills. She also taught Child Education at the community college in S. Korea. Sue graduated with a B. A. in Education and ended her classroom teaching career at a public high school in Houston in the summer of 2006.

She is thrilled to expand her desire to teach children beyond the public school system. Sue believes that a solid foundation in math is vital for today's children to succeed in their future endeavors and is excited to introduce Mathnasium to her neighborhood children in Katy. She is looking forward to bringing her students' potential to the maximum and offering them the opportunity to experience the fun of math and develop successful problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Sue has been very fortunate to travel many countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia & New Zealand, and Canada. She continues to learn from people she meets every day of her life.

Yimin Sun, Center Director

Majoring in applied mathematics, Yimin received a Master's degree from University of Houston and received his bachelor's degree in Statistics in 2005 in China.  Yimin has been working in Mathnasium for more than six years as a math instructor and with his experience and knowledge, he has been helping many high school students as well as college students to be successful at school. Yimin is very familiar with Texas math curriculum.

With love of Math, Yimin cannot live a day without thinking about a math problem. He believes that one of the best parts of his life is when he has students with "Ah-ha!" moments because of his efforts. Yimin also wants to assure his students to achieve not only learning math but also the right attitude towards math, while working with him. Yimin loves to travel and besides his hometown, Shanghai, he has visited almost all parts of China.

 Lina Wang, Math Instructor

Lina graduated with a Ph. D in Biomedical engineering has 9 years research experience in biomedical engineering field. She likes to take these intelligent challenges and enjoyed the progress of answering those unknown questions. However, the most enjoyable moment to her was when she passed this knowledge and skills to her students and helped them succeed academically. She has had the opportunity to mentor students from different academic backgrounds through her academic training period. As a certified Texas educator for math 7th - 12th grade, Lina enjoys helping students succeed with her knowledge and experience. She believes that a good sense of math, a solid math foundation, and the ability of logical thinking and learning will benefit students in the long run. 

 Craig Parker, Math Instructor

 Craig is a Junior at the University of Houston, where he is majoring Chemical Engineering. While in high school, he competed on both the math and science teams, placing 2nd in the district during his senior year on the math team. He graduated with honors in the top 5% of his class from Cinco Ranch High School. From his time spent competing on the math and science teams in high school, Craig has come to realize the importance of creativity within the realm of logic and reason. For him, teaching math is not just about teaching a straight-forward set of abstract number rules, but also how to manipulate those rules in intricate and useful ways.

 Jorge A. Laris, Math Instructor

Jorge has an Associate's degree in Science, and currently working on a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics at U of H. Has been tutoring math privately since 2006 and believes that math is a subject everybody can eventually understand. Math is logic and problem solving for reasons, not memorization of methods and formulas. Jorge worked mostly with high school students in Algebra, Geometry, but also had tutored college students as well as junior high school students.

Jorge's goal is to become a high school math teacher and wants to help students build a strong math foundation they will need in college.

 Lisa Reynolds, Math Instructor

Prior to earning Texas Educator Certifications to teach Early Childhood through Eighth Grade as well as English as a Second Language (ESL) students, Lisa worked in the energy, construction, and telecommunications sectors. These experiences provide a unique perspective from which she creates differentiated lessons with practical applications.  She enjoys helping students review, apply, and build on math skills, and she delights in finding new approaches to teaching students who may learn math differently.

 Gagan Kehal, Math Instructor

Gagan holds a bachelor and master’s degree in Computer Science. Before starting at Mathnasium in July 2016, she taught graduate level math-related courses at an engineering school for several years.

Gagan strongly believes that math is used in everyday life and aims to make this skill set a strength for all her students. Helping students learn to perform basic functions such as counting money, telling time, understanding fractions and addition/subtraction allows them to utilize these skills daily.  Thus, she teaches students with an objective to help develop their stronger grasp on mathematical fundamentals which thereby sets up a learning stage early on in their career.

 Gagan loves Mathnasium as it provides the right environment and equips all instructors with tools and resources needed to make math learning a fun-filled activity. Using proper techniques developed by Mathnasium to teach all aspects of Math makes it a lot easier, efficient and productive for students to learn.
