She is thrilled to expand her desire to teach children beyond the public school system. Sue believes that a solid foundation in math is vital for today's children to succeed in their future endeavors and is excited to introduce Mathnasium to her neighborhood children in Katy. She is looking forward to bringing her students' potential to the maximum and offering them the opportunity to experience the fun of math and develop successful problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Sue has been very fortunate to travel many countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia & New Zealand, and Canada. She continues to learn from people she meets every day of her life.
Yimin Sun, Lead Instructor
Majoring in applied mathematics, Yimin received master’s degree from University of Houston and his bachelor’s degree in Statistics in 2005 from Shanhai, China. As his major is mathematics, math is like a good friend to Yimin. It is hard for him to live a day without math. He believes he is good at helping students understand math. One of his happiest moments in life is when he has students “Ah-ha!” moments because of his efforts. When tutoring in U of H, he introduced many alternative methods to help students understand the knowledge in the textbook, which made him the most popular tutor in the tutoring center of U of H. Yimin also wants to assure his students to achieve not only learning math, but also the right attitude towards math, while working with him.
Anthony Lau, Math Instructor
Anthony believes mathematics is an essential part of science as well as engineering and is delighted to share his fondness in math given its many applications. He presently holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a Math Minor from Texas A&M University and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from University of Houston while pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. With his background in engineering, he understands the importance and usefulness of math, especially when dealing with electricity.
Alexis Asiama, Math Istructor
Alexis received her master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Lamar University. Her bachelor’s degree is in Chemistry from the University Of Maryland Baltimore County. During her undergraduate studies, she served as a math tutor in various math subjects ranging from College Algebra to Calculus III. She found this to be very rewarding because she was able to help students strengthen their math skills as well as help reestablish some underlying tools that were not previously grounded. Despite her vigorous course of study, Alexis believes that the common denominator among the vast subjects in school is to develop an analytical way of thinking. Once you can visualize the bigger picture in problem solving, everything else gets easier. When given the opportunity to work in groups, you bear witness to numerous possibilities to approach a problem. That’s where the true beauty lies. It is critical that children during this stage of their development learn the basic fundamentals i.e math, so that they can build upon for their future.
Seetha Jagannath, Math Instructor
Seetha is a sophomore in the Honors College at the University of Houston. Her current major is Biology. She has lived in Katy for over 6 years, and graduated in the top 5% of her class from Cinco Ranch High School in 2009. While at CRHS, she was an active member in Mu Alpha Theta (the math honor society) where she tutored high school students every week. She took AP classes throughout her junior and senior year, including AP Calculus. Her AP Calculus teacher inspired her to work hard in math, even though it was already one of her strengths. She has found that doing well in math goes beyond getting the problems right; it means understanding the underlying concept. Seetha believes that she can help students understand the concepts, enabling them to succeed.
Diana Perez, Math Instructor
Diana was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. She moved to the United States when she was fourteen years old. She graduated from the University of Houston Fall of 2010. She majored in Biology and also received a minor in Psychology. She has had a major interest in mathematics since the first grade. She attended an after school program in which she had the privilege to become more advanced than her classmates. Her passion for math began increasing when in High School she joined Mu Alpha Theta math honor society and competed at a state level. Diana has taken Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-calculus, Calculus I, Calculus II, Probability, and Statistics. “Practice makes perfect” That is the way Diana uses to describe how she believes anybody can be good at math. Mathematics is a subject that takes practice in order to both understand and master it.
Rohan Gajraj, Math Instructor
Rohan graduaged from the University of Houston in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. During the last two semesters of his degree, he completed a senior research project under the guidance of math professor Richard Sanders, which involved the randomness inherent in the dynamics of systems governed by differential equations. His interest in mathematics started from a very early age, and he takes pleasure in helping students understand concepts in math. He believes the logical reasoning associated with math is a very valuable asset to have for becoming successful later on in life. Apart from his academic career, he has also loved abroad in both England and Malaysia and visited places such as Singapore, Cambodia, Japan, Canada, and Scotland.
Lujun Qian, Math Instructor
Lujun has received her Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Texas in Austin. She is currently pursuing her second degree in financial Mathematics from the University of Hoston and during the past two years, Lujun has been a math tutor working with Junior High and High School students. She believes that Math is an interesting subject and it can be learned with practice and the right technique. Lujun is excited about the way Mathnasium presents math to students and hopes to be able to help many young students in building confidence in math.
DeAnn Rompf, Math Instructor
I am a 22 year veteran of the public school math classroom. I have taught all levels of mathematics from basic math through calculus. In addition, I have four years of tutoring experience both in a one-on-one setting and small group setting with students as young as preschool. My credentials include a BA from University of Texas at Arlington in Business Management, a MA from University of Phoenix in Organizational Management, an MA from Western Governor’s University in Instructional Design, and a Doctorate to be completed in 2012 in Education Leadership. Additionally, I am a National Board Certified Math Teacher from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. My philosophy on education is that learning is an important part of growing up and should be challenging and fun. I try to offer that both in my classroom and with the students I tutor.
Mehran Felfeli, Math Instructor
Majoring in engineering and science, Mehran received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering and currently is admitted to the MS degree program in transportation at TSU. He has been a tutor at Lone Star College for three years helping students from college Algebra to Calculus level and received his CRLA level three certificate. (It's members give practical application to their research and promote the implementation of innovative strategies to enhance student's learning.) Mehran likes math and believes math is the base for the future successful life. He also believes that everybody can reach the highest level of math with proper guidance and persistent student's input. It is critical that all students during their development learn the basics by understanding the fundamentals of math.
Daqian Li, Math Instructor
Majoring in applied mathematics, Daqian received PhD from University of Houston. Daqian has been a math tutor in various math subjects in the CASA (Center for Academic Support and Assessment) of University of Houston since 2006. “All roads lead to Rome” That is what he was thinking when he showed many shortcuts to the students to solve the mathematical problems there. Additionally, he also taught one undergraduate course in the fall semester of 2011. Daqian loves math and thinks math should not be so difficult than what the students think. He believes that it is rewarding to see the Mathnasium approach turn others into confident, enthusiastic math students and every student can feel he is smart in everything with his own hard work.
