Our Team

Cathy has a Doctorate in Mathematics Education from the University of Houston as well as a B.A in Mathematics and a Masters in Mathematics Education from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Her area of specialization is teaching mathematical problem solving and critical thinking. She has been involved in education for over thirty years, with classroom experience ranging from junior high school through college, and has tutored mathematics privately for the past 11 years. She holds teaching certificates in New York State and Texas. She has taught in New York State, Texas, Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Paris, France. Her father was a distinguished professor of psychology, specializing in the psychology of learning, and she has been strongly influenced by that in her philosophy of education. Cathy enjoys music and plays both the piano and violin. She and her husband, John, have two grown children who live in Austin, TX.

John graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a B.A. in Mathematics and a Masters in Mathematics Education. After two years of teaching mathematics, John decided to apply his math skills to business and obtained an MBA in Accounting and Finance from the State University of New York at Buffalo's Graduate School of Business. John found the problem solving and analytical skills he developed through his math education to be the foundation for his success. He worked as a CPA with public accounting firm Price Waterhouse and has worked in senior financial positions in pharmaceutical, oil field service and chemical industries. John is actively involved in the community by serving as Co-Chair of the Education and Workforce committee and being an Ambassador at the Cy-Fair Chamber of Commerce. He is also serving as a representative on the Cy-Fair ISD District Education Improvement Committee.

John and Cathy are excited to open Mathnasium in the Cy-Fair Independent School district in Cypress, Texas. They are committed to significantly increasing children's math skills, their understanding of math concepts and their overall school performance. Cy-Fair is a dynamic growing community where the parents value the importance of a sound education.

We provide lots of warm encouragement in a very positive learning environment so that children build their confidence and develop a winning attitude towards math. Our kids learn math in a way that makes sense to them. They get excited about math and this spirit carries over into everything they do.
