Mila Shainsky, Director
Throughout her life Mila has pursued and accomplished academic excellence. When she was 17 years old, she graduated as a valedictorian of her very competitive school in former USSR. She went on to receive multiple bachelor degrees in Math, Computer Sciences, Engineering, as well as her teaching credentials, all while raising twin boys. Upon the completion of her education Mila taught graduate engineering courses for 5 years. In 1989 Mila moved to the United States, and worked as a software engineer for 16 years. At the pinnacle of her professional career, she decided to get back to her prime passion in life; teaching others.

Mila is assisted at the center by her twin boys Yan and Pavel. Yan is the center manager and the chess instructor. Yan has been an entrepreneur for most of his life, opening a successful computer store when he was 18 years old. He has since worked as a business systems analyst for an international corporation for over 6 years, where he runs a chess club, and teaches his coworkers the intricacies of the game. Yan’s older twin brother Pavel works as one of the head instructors at the Mathnasium of Mira Mesa. Pavel has a bachelor’s degree from UCSD in Math and Computer Sciences.
