Prior to joining Mathnasium Rick spent 15 years in the banking industry where he was most recently a Director for USAA Federal Savings Bank. He is a recognized business scholar and is currently a business professor for Concordia University. Outside of work, Rick is involved with his church where he is a Director on the Foundation. He has also been a 5th grade Sunday school teacher and facilitator of both the Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University and Good Sense Budget Ministry. Amy McLaughlin, Director
Amy is a graduate of Southwest Texas State University and has over 9 years experience teaching children. She spent seven years teaching preschool and has spent the last two years teaching grades K-5 as a substitute for the Northside Independent School District. Amy is passionate about teaching and providing children the best possible learning environment. As mother of two boys ages 7 and 12, she understands both the learning needs of children and the needs of parents in supporting those learning needs. Amy is also active in the church and, when not working as a substitute teacher, she can often be found volunteering at Steubing Elementary.
Aaron Ryan
Aaron Ryan is a graduate of our very own Sandra Day O’Connor high school where he was the president of the Future Teachers of America. He is currently attending Northwest Vista in pursuit of a degree in Physics with a double minor in Mathematics and Spanish.
While Aaron may have graduated from a local school, he has only been a resident of Texas for the past four years. Prior to Texas Aaron lived and traveled across the world, due to being raised in a Military family. While living overseas in Spain, Aaron had an opportunity to participate in a program called MATHCOUNTS© in which his team took 3rd in regionals and were able to compete in Germany.
In addition to being a great big brother, Aaron has been working with kids for several years to include local tutoring and instructing Sunday school classes. Aaron is one of Mathnasium of Northside San Antonio’s first instructors and continues to be a valuable asset. Aaron is currently Level III Instructor Certified.

Awesome Results

My son started Mathnasium about 6 months ago and I have seen him just flourish. He is now in 2nd grade but started the summer prior to 2nd grade starting in preparation for a new, much more challenging school that he would be attending. My son had to take an entrance test for this school and I was told he was going to need to fill in a lot of gaps where he was deficient in math. I found Mathnasium just in time. Not only have they filled in the gaps but they have taken him far above and beyond. His 1st semester at this school he made a 97 in math. We are ecstatic and my son loves to go to the Mathnasium. They turned on the mathematical light bulb and he sees math in a whole new light. My son also relates very well with the instructors and would rather learn from them than me. The entire program and staff here is awesome!!

My son has been attending Mathnasium for the past two+ months. His attitude about Math has done a dramatic turn-around. Prior to attending Mathnasium, he felt discouraged about the subject. Since coming to Mathnasium, he feels a great sense of accomplishment and he no longer dreads the subject. My son really enjoys working with the instructors and owner. They are kind and patient individuals and have made learning Math enjoyable for him.
“I wanted to let you know that Karina brought her math grade from a 71 last semester to an 80. Her attitude has changed from just a month working at your center. Her report card comments for math was not finishing work, and poor study habits. Now there is an E in citizenship and an E in the comment section -exceptional attitude.”
We cannot thank Rick and the staff over at Mathnasium enough for all of the work that they did to not only raise our son’s Math scores dramatically but raise his confidence so he can tackle math for years to come. Their patience and dedication to my son made a huge difference in expanding his skill sets and they have shown him that he "can" do it. — The Bergmans
Mathnasium helped my child’s confidence and improved her overall understanding in math. We had a great experience with Mathansium and would recommend it to others.
