Just wanted you to know that the money you are spending on Clara for math tutoring is well worth whatever you are paying. She is consistently getting high marks on her math papers. She seems more confident in her work and runs around the room showing others and tutoring them.
She is so delightful.
It has been great having her in class.
My daughter has always struggled with math, but this year she started bringing home F’s and D’s on her tests. We were surprised because she was getting A’s and B’s on all her homework. We spoke with Mark at Mathnasium and signed her up for tutoring.
The first day I drove her to her tutoring session she was quite frankly morose. As we pulled into the parking lot I saw a Sushi restaurant and told her, “Hey! If you get B’s on both of the tests you have to re-take I’ll take you out to sushi!”. Shall we say her response was less than excited? Nothing was going to cheer this girl up. So when I returned 90 minutes later to pick her up I asked her, “So how did it go?” Her response was, “Mom… I finally GET IT. I’m so glad we’re doing this.”
After 2 days with tutoring she re-took the first test and got a B-, after 2 more days she re-took the next and got a B! We were so happy!
But nothing beats what happened today. The teacher posted her scores on the last two tests they took in class and she got an A… and an A-! No re-takes!
Thank you Mathnasium! I’ve had to increase my sushi budget and I don’t mind ONE BIT!
Melinda F.Throughout her 5th grade year, our daughter struggled with math. She found it confusing, frustrating and tedious. She was convinced that she wasn’t good at math and never would be. When final grades came home, it became glaringly obvious that she had fallen behind and that we needed to do something, and quick. When we suggested math tutoring, she begged us not to ruin her summer. There was much crying and pleading, but also a strange sense of relief when we insisted that she give Mathnasium a try. From her first visit, there was a change. She immediately discovered that math had some redeeming qualities, and looked forward to every Mathnasium visit. Her confidence steadily increased, and although she forbid us from observing her sessions, it was obvious that her understanding took huge steps forward. By the end of the summer, she was spewing out math facts – telling us how five contestants would split a prize on a television talent show, and then giving us the average of their scores. Just this weekend, she explained how she had paid one-fifth of the original price of a sale item, and then went on to explain how she had reached that conclusion. We always knew that she had the ability to understand math, but we never imagined that she would find it fun!
As our daughter begins 6th grade, she does so with a sense of confidence. We attribute that confidence to her summer with Mathnasium. She is actually looking forward to her math class this year, and is anxious to see how her new understanding translates into the classroom. And, she has begged to continue with the Mathnasium program. After all this, how could we refuse!
