Heather Larrabee, Owner/Center Director
Heather spent over 12 years as a public educator before deciding to become a Mathnasium owner. She spent most of her career teaching fourth and fifth grade in Southern California and Central Virginia before reluctantly leaving the classroom to become a District Math Specialist. Her favorite part of being a District Math Specialist was the opportunity to work with and support teachers from kindergarten through high school. When she returned to California in 2010, she became a Math Instructional Coach for the Elk Grove Unified School District. Contrary to what some may think, math did not always come easy for Heather. Her passion for teaching math in a way that makes sense comes from her own difficulties both as a student in high school math, and then as a teacher trying to teach her first class of fourth graders how to divide. She quickly realized she herself didn't have a deep enough understanding to help her students make sense of what they were doing. So, back to school she went to become a better teacher! Heather now has a Master's in Mathematics Education, K-8, from San Diego State University and a Post-Master's Certificate in Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University. Heather now loves helping others find their passion for math!
Hawley Anderson, Instructor
Hawley is a High School math teacher in Elk Grove Unified School District. She has a BS in Biochemistry and a Teaching Credential from UC Davis. Over the years, she's taught math from Pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus (with some Physics and Chemistry thrown in), but she specializes in Geometry and Algebra 2. She loves working with kids to help them gain a deeper understanding of math and feel good about their skills. She's been in the classroom for many years and is enjoying the change of pace and chance to work one-on-one with students at Mathnasium. In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her family, reading good books and cooking yummy meals. Hawley has already proven to be a great asset to our team, and we are so excited to have such an awesome team-player on board!
Kris Hidalgo, Lead Instructor
Kris has been with Mathnasium of Elk Grove since July, 2015. Although he currently resides in Elk Grove, Kris has lived in Japan (his birthplace), the Philippines, Guam and San Diego. This may contribute to his love of travel! Another passion of Kris' is dance. He has been dancing since 2007, is a dance assistant at Cosumnes River College and a dance mentor for Harriet Eddy Middle School. Kris began his college studies at CRC, where he also worked in the Math Center. He then transferred to Sacramento State University, where he is currently majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Japanese. Kris came to Mathnasium of Elk Grove becuase he wanted to be part of an established organization where he could become a key player and pass his knowledge down to the next generation. He enjoys helping others achieve and become better at something they thought they could never understand.
Josh LaCount, Lead Instructor
Josh joined the Mathnasium Team in October, 2015. Josh comes to us with several years of math tutoring experience, much of which he acquired working at the Math Center at Cosumnes River College. He loves watching people learn, especially kids - "They have such a desire to learn and I love watching them grow!" Josh currently holds five degrees (3 in biology, 1 in math, and 1 general) and has just transferred to Sacramento State University where he will be working on his Bachelor's in Biology! Josh has quickly become known around our Center as our resident baker and chef for his incredible kitchen skills.

Kristi Nguyen, Instructor
Kristi is currently a high school junior enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program at Mira Loma High School. With math being her favorite subject at school, Kristi is excited to join the Mathnasium Team as of September, 2016, and extend her knowledge, love, and enthusiasm for numbers and problem-solving to others. Although she spends a lot of her free time with her nose buried in textbooks, Kristi enjoys to bust out jazz riffs on her alto saxophone as well as volunteer at the local soup kitchen.
Brandon Yu, Instructor
A graduate of Stagg High School in Stockton, Brandon is currently a student at Cosumnes River College. He plans to eventually transfer to Sacramento State University to major in Civil Engineering. His favorite subjects are math and science, and he had always wanted the chance to tutor in math. This is what led him to Mathnasium of Elk Grove in July, 2015. When he isn't busy as a Mathnasium Instructor, Brandon enjoys playing badminton, and is really into video games and anime. He is also the older brother to three younger sisters.
