Amber Beckemeyer, Director

Amber has been with Mathnasium since August 2014, starting out as an instructor and working her way up. Before that, she spent several years in education after completing a Bachelor's in Math & Psychology, as well as a Master's in Teaching. While she always envisioned herself teaching inside a typical classroom, Amber was pleasantly surprised at how much Mathnasium felt like home. Amber feels as if she has finally found her place in this world and she works incredibly hard to make it a welcoming environment for all.

Celia Croy, Lead Instructor

Celia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from UC San Diego, and studied Music Composition at American River College. She currently teaches piano and guitar lessons to children and enjoys playing the piano and other percussion instruments in American River College’s performing ensembles. Celia has always had a love for math and and has found joy in tutoring math students of all ages.

Patrick Chen, Lead Instructor

Patrick is Amber's right-hand man whenever she needs some backup in Fair Oaks. He is currently pursuing a Mathematics degree at Sacramento State and is looking forward to a future career in education. He loves teaching and helping students learn in the Mathnasium way. Outside of math he also loves coaching and playing basketball - helping kids on the court has furthered his interest and passion for mentoring kids in the classroom.

Lisa Marie Holzen, Acting Lead Instructor

Lisa Marie graduated summa cum laude from Sacramento State University in Economics and Statistics and is currently pursuing graduate studies. She loves math and strives to inspire students with her love for learning. Outside of her academic interests, music is always a favorite pastime. She continues to enjoy performing with family and friends in an effort to share the joy of music with the community.

Lyuba Vasilenko, Lead Instructor (in training)

Lyuba graduated from Sacramento State University with a BA in Mathematics. One of her biggest goals in life has always been to work with teens and kids in some way and Mathnasium has given her a great environment to do that. She also currently serves in multiple ministries at her church, including finance, music, and teen ministry. She strives to learn and grow in this job and all her ministries so that some day she can teach math in her own high school classroom.

Mark Nelson, Instructor

As a young child, Mark developed an aptitude and love of math and science, but it was not until attending high school that he really got a sense of how they both fit together. Going on to American River College, he began taking calculus, chemistry and physics, and thought hard about becoming an engineer. However, after taking a break while serving as a missionary for two years, he returned to school and realized that it was the math he felt most drawn to.

Jarek Marcinek, Instructor

Andrew Schubauer, Instructor

Angel Cruz, Instructor

Angel studied at San Francisco state university for four years. The collaboration amongst peers he experienced while in the math department there motivated him to further his education into graduate school. It also opened the doors to helping his peers with math and now onto helping students learn math at all levels.

Shahin Sams, Instructor

Shahin graduated with high honors from UC Davis with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and will return to Davis to pursue her PhD in the same field. Math was always her favorite subject in school and wants to help kids understand it from an early age so they can enjoy and better appreciate everything math touches in our everyday lives – like music, cooking, art, and science! When not in the lab or tutoring, she loves going on hikes, painting, writing and illustrating children’s books, playing guitar, and writing music.
