Our Team

A resident of the local area and a parent of two children, Andrea was inspired to open and operate the first Mathnasium in Washington because she knew firsthand that after-school math instruction can make a world of difference. Andrea received her B.A. in American Studies from Yale University, where she also took advanced math classes. She then worked with numbers on a daily basis during a 20-year career as a stockbroker and executive for a local stockbrokerage firm. Andrea taught practical math applications such as margin requirements, fixed income formulas and income taxes to adults, and tutored children for many years. Andrea’s favorite uncle taught her that math could be fun, and that it applies to almost anything in the world – from construction to golf. Now she and the other Mathnasium instructors are math mentors themselves, teaching math that makes sense.
