Our Team

Susan is a native of eastern North Carolina, growing up in Kinston, NC and graduating from Kinston High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from Wake Forest University. While at WFU, she met her husband, Steve, and they have remained in North Carolina since that time. In 1994, Susan started a home-based business which was eventually sold to a large national company in 2007. After the sale of the business, Susan became a Title 1 Math Tutor. This experience helped her to see that the demands on today’s students are quite high and can be very discouraging for the child who struggles. In 2009, she came across the Mathnasium Method and fell in love with the company and its methodologies. In September 2009, Susan and Steve opened Mathnasium of Goldsboro with the goal of improving and celebrating the math skills of all levels of students in Wayne and surrounding counties. Steve is no longer actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the center since being hired as a Regional Manager for Mathnasium, LLC.
Susan has been the middle school Sunday School teacher at Garris Chapel UMC for several years and actively participates in many church activities. She is a past member of the Board of Directors for Artistic Productions and is actively involved in its Dance for Christ ministry. Susan and Steve have three daughters, Emily, Lisa, and Mary Ella who are students in the Wayne County Public School system.
Lauren has been in North Carolina for three years. She moved from Colorado after graduating from Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies and an Elementary School Teaching License. She taught second grade for a year in Raleigh, and taught third grade for two years at Spring Creek Elementary. She is currently pursuing a second degree in Mechanical Engineering at East Carolina University. She is excited to be taking math courses that will not only satisfy her degree requirements but also help her to assist the students at Mathnasium. She lives with her husband, Vincent, and their three cats. She is also an active volunteer with Center Stage Theatre; you may be able to catch her in their next play.
After graduating from Cornell University with a BS in Chemical Engineering and obtaining a MS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Virginia, Vince worked as a process engineer with Rohm & Haas Company (Philadelphia, PA) for 5 years. He then moved to North Carolina to take a position as a formulation engineer with ICI Americas (Pikeville, NC). After ICI relocated to California, Vince stayed on at the former ICI site and worked for NOR-AM Chemical Company for 2 years. In 1993, he took a position with Bioxy Incorporated (Kinston, NC) as the Director of Quality Assurance and Manufacturing. Vince is currently working in the same position with Clean Water International LLC (Kinston, NC), a spinoff of Bioxy. In his spare time, Vince is active in his church and enjoys sports, including coaching youth baseball. He is married and has three sons.
Sloane recently moved to North Carolina from Florida with her husband who is in the Air Force. An active member of North Marion High School, she graduated 2nd in her class, and attended the College of Central Florida. She plans to obtain her AA from Wayne Community College, and go on to complete her Bachelors at East Carolina University. Since math and learning have always been her passions, it is only natural that her career choice would be teaching mathematics. Eventually, she would like to teach Calculus and Statistics to high school students, but in the meantime finds joy in all variations of the art of learning and teaching numbers. Obviously, she is thrilled to be one of the crew at Mathnasium.

She is excited about the opportunity to work one on one with young people. Besides her love for teaching math, Chelsea loves baking, scrapbooking and hanging out with her husband.
Thea is originally from the Philippines and has been in North Carolina for a year. She migrated to the United States after graduating from the University of the Philippines with a degree of BA Social Science. She then moved to Goldsboro with her husband who works at the Air Force. Being an active member of the academic community, she spent her school days off volunteering to teach basic school subjects to out-of-school youth at the Serving Neighbors Network in the Philippines. She found that she enjoyed teaching, and math especially came easy to her. She dreams of doing qualitative or quantitative social science research that involves statistical analysis. Until then, she is thrilled to be teaching math at Mathnasium.
Allie moved to Goldsboro in December of 2011 from Pensacola, Florida when her husband, who is in the Air Force, was relocated. Prior to living in Florida, Allie studied at the University of Wyoming for four years while she was a member of the women’s diving team. Allie graduated with honors, in May of 2011, with her Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics. Throughout her years at college and her senior year of high school, Allie gained experience tutoring students in math. She loves being able to make a difference in a student’s understanding and attitude toward math. Mathnasium gives her the opportunity to continue helping students grow to like and even love math! Allie also enjoys being active by playing sports and playing outside with her dog.
