Our Team

Rebecca Diestelow, Director of Operations
Becky fills the position of Director of Operations for both the Grayslake and Barrington centers. She graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2003 with a degree in English Literature, and worked in accounting as a bookkeeper for a car dealership in the years after graduating, before opening Mathnasium of Grayslake. Her experience as a bookkeeper made her realize the importance of Number Sense in everyday life, fueling her decision to open Mathnasium as an alternate resource for students who want to boost their math skills. Her hope is that through Mathnasium, both students and parents will come to see math as exciting and challenging, rather than a necessary evil. She is excited to open her second center in Barrington and looks forward to making a difference in the lives of students there. In her spare time, Becky enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, and writing. She hopes to one day author a series of novels.
Judy Mayster, Owner/Administrator
As an accountant and Controller for a successful car dealership in Illinois for many years, Judy has always had an active interest in mathematics. She began her 30-year career as the receptionist and through hard work and determination, today successfully manages all accounting aspects of the company. She looks forward to doing the same for her Mathnasium center. When she came across Mathnasium during an online search, she felt that the company offered something different and exciting for students who were struggling in math. Along with her daughters, Becky and Vanessa, she will open one of the first centers in Illinois, and they look forward to opening more centers and introducing the state to the world of Mathnasium.
Lisa Schmidt, Lead Instructor
Lisa has been a Montessori directress for ages three to six for 12 years. She has been married to her husband John for 25 years and has two daughters, Rachel, who attends Carmel Catholic High School, and Lauren, who attends Drake University. Lisa was drawn to Mathnasium because of its similarities to the Montessori program, and loves to see the look in a child's eyes when they make the connection and develop a deeper understanding of math concepts. In her spare time, she enjoys designing and creating stain glass projects in her studio.
Braden Davidson, Lead Instructor
Braden is originally from Vernon Hills and he graduated from the University of Illinois with degrees in both Economics and Psychology. Before coming to Mathnasium in October of last year, Braden worked in Chicago with a non-profit organization that emphasized improving one's lifestyle through a holistic health approach. He is very excited to work with math students on a daily basis and particularly enjoys Mathnasium because it is a place he has witnessed, firsthand, the transformation from a student struggling to excelling beyond their peers. Because of the Mathnasium curriculum and the positive attitude of instructors towards students, he is proud to work at such a unique and progressive organization.
