Chris Hofer, Center Director/Owner
Chris graduated from George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and completed coursework for a minor in special education. Chris has several years of teaching experience. After becoming aware of his own children’s struggles with mathematics, Chris decided to bring the Mathnasium Method to into the Greensboro community.
Larry Martinek, Chief Instructional Officer, Developer of Mathnasium Program
Larry has spent his entire career finding a better way to teach math. From inner city to public schools, to acclaimed magnet schools, to leading private and parochial schools, Larry has served as both a classroom teacher and as an educational consultant. He has designed curriculum, teaching strategies, and teaching materials designed to help students and teachers learn math more effectively. He has trained teachers in the art and science of boosting student’s ability to “do” math, thereby increasing student’s math scores and feeling of self-worth. Larry is the developer of Mathnasium’s educational program – one of the most comprehensive and innovative curriculums ever produced for teaching math.
Brittany Hobbs, Assistant Director
Brittany Hobbs joined Mathnasium Greensboro in March of 2010. Brittany’s understanding of Mathematics and ability to communicate Math to students of all ages and levels highly qualifies her for Lead Instructor at Mathnasium Greensboro. Brittany moved to Greensboro, NC from California , where she attended high school in Dublin and graduated with Honors in 2008. Now earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at UNC Greensboro. Brittany’s dream of becoming a Great Dentist will follow Dental School. Brittany writes, “ Through all my years of school, I have always tutored fellow students. I love to know I have helped another person understand something I am lucky enough to grasp. So working at Mathnasium is perfect for me- I am rewarded every single day with glowing eyes from children that finally understand! The gasp when realized the light bulb in their head has turned on is worth every second of being here!
David Lerner, Lead Instructor
Educational Background: Guilford College 2010, BA in Mathematics and a BA in Psychology Before Working at Mathnasium: "I spent most of my time as a full-time student, but worked summers as a camp counselor. I've also volunteered at several locations including a high school (working with autistic children), a mental health facility, and a fair-trade craft store." Reasons for working at Mathnasium: "After working as a camp counselor for several years, I found that I enjoy working with children. Mathnasium offered a good opportunity to combine a number of my interests - working with children, mathematics, and teaching."
Thomas Gardler, Instructor
Thomas has joined Mathnasium Greensboro in September 2010. Thomas is presently working on a Masters in Chemistry which precedes his ultimate goal of Phd.in chemistry. Thomas writes," I love helping children be successful. Helping them understand Math and not fear it makes me happy!"
