Dr. Lum has been teaching children math since 1990 when he graduated from the University of Hawaii. He is a state and nationally credentialed teacher with a Doctorate in Education from University of Southern California and prides himself in creating an environment that allows children to make discoveries, solve problems, and think independently. He has designed numerous creative programs for the classroom and has contributed significantly to the MATHNASIUM method.
Larry has spent his entire career finding a better way to teach math. From inner city public schools, to acclaimed magnet schools, to leading private and parochial schools, Larry has served as both a classroom teacher and as an educational consultant. He has designed curricula, teaching strategies, and teaching materials to help students learn mathematics more effectively. He has trained teachers in the art and science of boosting student’s ability to “do” math, thereby increasing student’s math scores and feeling of self–worth. Larry is the developer of Mathnasium’S educational program—one of the most comprehensive and innovative curriculums ever produced for teaching math.
Gerilyn received dual degrees in Biology and Business Management, as well as her MBA at the University of Hawaii and aspires to be a dentist. Aside from mathematics tutoring, Gerilyn dances Jazz and Hip-Hop with Dance Central and is the Assistant Varsity Cheerleading Coach at Hawaii Baptist Academy. It is her desire that each student come to appreciate and understand mathematics, her favorite subject since elementary school.
Jeffrey is a graduate of the University of Hawaii's College of Engineering. He is currently pursuing a career in either traffic engineering or teaching math at a community college or university. Jeffrey has enjoyed mathematics throughout his entire life and as a result enjoys teaching students from Kindergarten to 12th grade the various intricacies involved with math for all grade levels.
Melvin was always interested in physics and mathematics. My curiosity about these subjects influenced my choice of major, which is electrical engineering with electronic physics as my specialized focus. On my spare time I like to work on cars, go to the gym, and body board. To me math has always been something I've enjoy learning and I believe that anyone can be successful in their math classes given the right tools and guidance.
Mark earned his AA degree in Liberal Arts and Pre-Business Academic Certificate from Leeward Community College in 2005. He also earned his BBA degree in Finance at University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2007. He has previously worked at LCC Math Lab as a math tutor and assistant supervisor where he taught various mathematics courses from mental math to calculus. Mark enjoys teaching students the conceptual ways of mathematics and helping his students to excel on their math skills. He also has spent time doing private tutoring who needs that extra help.
Nolan graduated from Pearl City High School in 2003. He then went on to the University of Hawaii at Manoa where he graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor's Degree in Finance. Aside from his interest in Mathematics, Nolan likes to stay active by participating in many sports such as baseball, basketball, and golf. He also enjoys leisure activities which include video games, going to the beach and hiking.
Mitchell currently a junior at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, majoring in mathematics. He will be using that degree to teach high school mathematics. He is also one of the math tutors at UH West Oahu No'eau center for writing, math, and academic success. Mitchell enjoys tutoring as it gives him a better understanding of the math he has learned, strengthening his skill.
Georgina graduated from high school in 2006 and received her Associates of Arts degree in Liberal Arts in 2007 at ASCC. She is currently enrolled at Chaminade University of Honolulu pursuing a degree in Environmental Science. Prior to Mathnasium, she worked as a volunteer tutor in English and math at Palolo Elementary school. In her free time, she enjoys reading, watching movies and spending time with her family and friends.
Jeremy is a 20 year old college student majoring in Business. I am currently studying marketing at University of Hawaii. I graduated from the high school Hawaii Baptist Academy in 2009 where I picked up some of my math skills. After high school I attended Hawaii Pacific University majoring in Environmental Engineering where the highest math I took was Calculus II, but later decided to change to Marketing and applied to UH. I enjoy doing many activities outside of math including swimming, hiking , golf.
