Center Director/OwnerKaren Canzoneri, Center Director/Owner

Karen graduated from Stetson University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and received a Masters in Accountancy in 1991. Math has always been a favorite with Karen and her love of numbers has been a major factor in her 24 years of successful practice as a Certified Public Accountant in Central Florida. Karen is a partner at McDirmit Davis & Company where she heads up the tax practice. She has spent years teaching young CPA's how to be successful tax accountants and now looks forward to teaching young people that they can be successful in their math education and learn to love math. Top jobs now and in the future are going to focus more and more on strong math skills. Mathnasium's concept that "children don't dislike math, they dislike being intimidated and feeling that they can't understand math" inspired Karen to join the Mathnasium group. She is excited about the Mathnasium method and difference that it can make in a young person's life.

Christie Miller, Lead Instructor

Christie grew up in a small town outside of Chicago.  She attended Texas A&M University where she earned a bachelor's degree in art.  After college, she continued her education by getting her teaching certification.  She is certified in elementary and middle school education, special education and art education.  She moved to Apopka with her husband in 2013 and now teaches third and fourth grade at a local private school.  She is truly passionate about teaching and mentoring students. She has found the Mathnasium method is a fantastic way to help students really understand math.

 Joseph Wermter, Instructor

Joe is a student at Seminole State College.  He has been interested in math and science for most of his life. When he was 10, he turned a fear of deadly storms into a fascination with meteorology.  It wasn't until high school geometry, however, that Joe developed a fascination with the fundamental concepts of mathematics. Joe is now in college studying physics with aspirations to become a research meteorologist.

Charles Hafner, Instructor

Charles has lived in the Apopka area all of his life.  He is a graduate of Wekiwa High School and is currently a student at Rollins College where he is seeking a degree in music education.  Charles plays the clarinet and enjoys playing chess and video games.  He finds working with Mathnasium students a joy and loves to help them clear up any confusion that math throws their way.

Hobie McKiernan, Instructor

Hobie is a retired math teacher.  He spent 41 years as a classroom teacher.  During his career, he taught all levels of middle school math including Algebra I and Geometry.  Although he is retired, he has an intense interest in helping children succeed in Math.  This interest led him to Mathnasium where he can continue to work with today's students.  At Mathnasium, he has found a perfect niche, working with our Algebra I students and making Algebra understandable to them.
