Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Al

Assistant Center Director
Al is a senior at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, double majoring in Psychology and Sociology and minoring in History. After undergrad, they will attend UNC Charlotte's Master's in School Counseling program. In addition to working at Mathnasium, Al has worked at the Carolina Renaissance Festival directing and supervising the teen performance troupe. They have always believed that math can be genuinely fun, and they want to inspire that same love of math in others by making it fun for them too.

Amanda Burdi

Owner
Amanda is the Owner of Mathnasium of Huntersville and Mathnasium of Mooresville. Prior to opening her Mathnasium Learning Centers, Amanda was a graduate student at Virginia Tech where she received an MS in Environmental Engineering. She also has a BS in Environmental Engineering from NC State. Amanda has always loved math and wants to share her enthusiasm with kids of all ages. As a tutor and instructor for more than a decade, Amanda is passionate about explaining concepts by teaching people in a way that makes sense to them. She has taught and tutored children of all ages, and she is committed to bringing the Mathnasium Method to the children in the Huntersville community.

Carol

Lead Instructor
Carol taught and tutored for many years at the high school level in South Florida, where she was voted Teacher of the Year at her school. She moved to Saint Louis when her mother had a stroke and taught at the community college there for 10 years. When her daughters moved to North Carolina, she relocated to be near them and her grandchildren. Her most rewarding memory was a note she received from one of her students, which said, “Thank you for helping me learn to love math!”-which remains her goal for every student here.

Shreya

Instructor
Shreya is a senior at Hough High School. Throughout her education, she often helped her classmates learn math concepts in class by breaking down content in layman’s terms and learned she enjoyed tutoring. Math has always been her favorite subject and she believes it is applicable and useful in all disciplines. She believes the critical thinking and problem-solving skills learned through math are invaluable. Outside of school, Shreya plays volleyball and enjoys learning about different languages and trying new foods.

Oliver

Instructor
Oliver is a Junior at Hough High School. He has always enjoyed helping his peers in all subjects, especially math. He has excelled in math throughout his education and loves to find new ways to teach people. He wants to share his love for math to all others because he feels math is something that applies in an infinite number of situations and is one of the greatest skills to have. Outside of the workplace Oliver plays trombone and plays with his dogs. He hopes to pursue an engineering degree after high school.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
