Our Team

Sumitha graduated from Wayne State University in 2003 with a Masters Degree in Bio-Medical Engineering. She has worked as a manufacturing engineer in both the pharmaceutical and bio-medical industries. Even as a child, Sumitha was passionate about math and pushed herself to received the highest marks in the State Examinations in India. She has taught math at the university level and was known for helping students to understand math as simply as possible. Sumitha really loves teaching math to children and taking the fear out of math by helping them to understand the basics of ‘math logic’ and helping them build on that solid foundation. She believes that a strong foundation in math is absolutely necessary for every child. She wants students to understand math in a simple language, visualize it, and have no fear of math. Her beliefs & passion led her to Mathnasium which operates on the philosophy that “children don’t hate math, they hate being confused and intimidated by math.” She views Mathnasium as an incredible model for teaching math. With the comprehensive curriculum and teaching procedures combined, she strongly believes that this technique should become a country wide program.
