Maria Theresa Villatoro

Center Director

Maria Theresa Villatoro is an educator, activist, and social entrepreneur working at the intersection of human development and design. She is the founder of STEM IN A BOX, a youth-led initiative that allows students to assemble robots from electrical waste in Latin America and Africa. Maria is a master's candidate at the Alliance for Technology, Learning and Society (ATLAS) Institute at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she is pursuing a specialization in Technology & Design for Social Impact.

Janelle

Lead Instructor

I'm an Aerospace Engineering major in my junior year of school at the University of Colorado Boulder. Math was always my favorite subject in school, because it felt like a fun puzzle. In turn, I love teaching math to others and helping them realize that math can be like a game. I have experience teaching Indigenous high schoolers math with a program called CU Upward Bound. I also teach Aerospace Computer Science as a TA at CU. I'm originally from Washington, so I love skiing and visiting the ocean, and I'm also very passionate about dancing, acting, singing, and playing the piano.

Marissa

Lead Instructor

I am a graduate student at CU Boulder working towards my Master's degree in mechanical engineering. I love learning and teaching STEM subjects, and in my undergraduate degree I was a teaching assistant for three years. I am originally from Minnesota and love spending time outside with activities like running, Nordic skiing, and camping.

I'm a 4th year physics major at CU. I love learning all topics of math and science at any level, and I love sharing my passion for math with others! In my free time I like to watch movies or play chess. I also love cooking and trying new foods.
