Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Noah

Assistant Center Director
Noah graduated from Northwestern University with a Degree in Theatre. While acting has always been highly enjoyable, teaching has been his passion. Growing up in a Montessori environment followed by a preparatory high school allowed Noah many opportunities to assist younger students and peers in Math and other subjects. His acting background allowed him to work with numerous children in the Chicago-land area, creating theatre pieces of their own. Noah has been working at Mathnasium since 2015. First, at the West Linn Center as an Instructor, then Assistant Center Director, then Center Director, a position held until the Fall of 2021 when he transitioned to the Lake Oswego Center. He loves teaching children and his favorite questions is when a student asks for help and before he can respond the child discovers the answer on their own! In his free time, Noah enjoys playing guitar, singing, and dancing to music. The biggest math challenge he had was building a set for the largest student theater company in the country.

Bruce

Owner
By owning a Mathnasium franchise, Bruce has come full circle back to the joy of mathematics and problem solving that lead him to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Lewis & Clark College. In addition to studying Math while in college, Bruce played Varsity Football, earned extra money as a Math Tutor and was involved with student politics. After graduation he studied Actuarial Science at Georgia State University and began a career in the Pension and Retirement Plans Industry, working with consulting firms and insurance companies in that capacity. An opportunity to work in healthcare consulting moved Bruce into the Health Services Industry, where he most recently worked with WebMD Health Services as National Account Manager. Outside of Mathnasium, Bruce has 3 school aged children, which keeps things very busy with school, music, and athletic events. Bruce has spent many seasons as a youth basketball coach, and in his spare time works as a musician, playing in multiple bands in the Portland area including Ural Thomas & The Pain (uralthomasandthepain.com) , Jujuba (jujuba.org), the Goodfoot All-Stars and the WayDowns (thewaydowns.net). Bruce is a member of The Portland Horns, who have played with national touring acts such as The Decemberists, The Violent Femmes, Spoon, Bobby Bare Jr, The Next Waltz and many others. His discography includes credits with Jujuba, Kathy Walker Band, The Decemberists, NRVS LVRS, Jerry Joseph & the Jackmormons, Casey Neil & the Norway Rats, Point Juncture WA, Kory Quinn and a host of others. Bruce is very excited to be opening mathematical doors using the Mathnasium method of developing number sense. He feels strongly that math skills are not only important from a technical standpoint, but also as a solid foundation of logic and problem solving skills that is not only relevant, but crucial to success in many disciplines.

Anthony

Lead Instructor
Anthony graduated from Reed College with a B.A. in Philosophy where he discovered a passion for logic. Coupled with his lifelong interest in computers, this lead him to pursue an M.S. in Computer Science where he specialized in statistical Machine Learning. Anthony earned the distinction of being one of the only graduate students in his department to earn multiple Teaching Excellence awards as a Teaching Assistant. While he enjoyed teaching at the college level, at Mathnasium, Anthony most appreciates being able to work with and witness the breakthroughs of students who have “fallen through the cracks” of the K-12 educational system. For enjoyment, he likes to train his cat how to do new tricks, cook dishes from around the world, and occasionally plays chess in between doing chess puzzles and watching chess tournaments streamed online. The biggest math challenge he faced was working on a program in grad school that could automatically score any board game from just a single still photo of the board and the pieces.

Liz

Instructor
Liz is a college student at Lewis & Clark College. She is working towards a degree in mathematics. She enjoys working with the kids at Mathnasium because it is really exciting to watch a student have a breakthrough in their learning and understand something they had been struggling with. In her free time, Liz enjoys drawing, hiking, and building jigsaw puzzles. She also used to do competitive horseback riding and still loves to watch competitions.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
