Question: Let 2(7n – 6) = 8(n + 2).  What is the value of n?
Answer: n = 3.
Note: Students should not use calculators to solve this problem. Since 2(7n – 6) = 8(n + 2) we can let 8(n + 2) = 23(n + 2) = 2(3n + 6). Then we let 7n – 6 = 3n + 6, solving this equation we find n = 3.
