Although Windell earned business degrees at Belhaven College (BBA and MBA), he was drawn to teaching. Coming from a family of educators, he began teaching fourth grade in 2005 (self contained). His success with getting students to “actually like math” led him to teaching 5th grade math and science the following year.

Looking to combine his business degrees and teaching experience, Windell considered opening a math only tutorial service. After an extensive search, he came to believe in the teaching methods of Larry Martinek, the co-founder of Mathnasium and creator of the Mathnasium Method.

Windell found many similarities between Mathnasium and his teaching techniques. It starts with confidence. “When students are lost with a math topic, they feel frustrated and begin to fear what they don’t understand. They soon shut down and lose interest. When students understand basic math principles, they blossom in math and other subjects like science and reading. Mathnasium meets the student on their level and takes them to the proper grade level and beyond.”

Windell has worked with over 3,000 students in Mississippi. He taught math and science in Madison County schools, worked as a math and science consultant at over 30 elementary, middle, and high schools, and worked with MDE as a science trainer.
