Tommy earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. After graduating from UCLA, Tommy worked as a Mechanical Engineer and a Technologist in the Aerospace and Defense industry.
While attending UCLA, Tommy developed a passion for teaching after tutoring underrepresented college students in the subjects of math and physics. His desire to teach and help the children in his community led him to open a Mathnasium Center there.
When he is not working, Tommy enjoys keeping fit by playing basketball, practicing Yoga, and lifting weights. He also loves to travel and enjoys life with family and friends.

Blake graduated from UCI with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science. He is currently applying for credentialing programs in order to teach mathematics at the high school level. Although his degree is in a social science, he has taken several higher-level math courses, including: Differential Equations, Multi-Variable Calculus, and Infinite Series & Sequences. However, Blake knows first-hand the difficulties of early-level math without the right tools.
His high school experience with Trigonometry and Calculus was one of confusion and dejection. It wasn't until college that he began to conceptualize and visualize the material in his own terms. As Blake's outlook on math slowly changed from apprehension to confidence, he began helping his friends and classmates with their math problems. Now, Blake's primary goal is to help kids in high school find their own best approach to the foundations of college-level math.
In his spare time, Blake enjoys video games, movies, and playing basketball with his friends in Irvine.
Emilie went to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics with a teaching emphasis and a minor in Philosophy. She graduated Cal Poly knowing and appreciating mathematics, but wanting more insight into how students think about and learn math. She is currently working towards a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education at San Diego State University. During the summer she works at Stanford with the Center for Talented Youth as a teacher’s assistant for a 5th and 6th grade math class. Once she graduates, she hopes to teach at either the high school or community college level.
In her free time she enjoys playing with her dog, listening to podcasts, scuba diving, and watching her favorite TV shows.

Sydney graduated from Mount Holyoke College (in Massachusetts) with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and a minor in Theatre Arts. After graduating she began working in theatre costume design and went back to school to earn a degree in Fashion Design. She has started her own fashion design business, a great use of both her fashion design and math skills. She is also in the process of obtaining her CA Substitute Teaching credentials. Eventually she plans to go back to school to earn a Masters in Mathematics so she can teach in addition to having her design business.
Sydney has loved math from a young age when her mother taught her addition and subtraction skills through counting games on the way to preschool. Math was usually one of Sydney's best subjects, but she did have some struggles along the way, especially with Geometry and Algebra 2. Some times she had to teach herself concepts or figure out other ways to solve problems when instruction from a teacher was not clear. She would often help her fellow classmates to understand math concepts in the way that she learned them. During high school and college she tutored her sister, young cousins, and even her mother in various math subjects. Through this she learned patience and various ways of explaining concepts. She loves working with kids and seeing that 'aha!' moment when a new concept finally clicks.
In her free time, Sydney enjoys sewing, singing karaoke, dancing, and listening to music.
Sarah is currently a student at San Diego State University and is studying Financial Services. Originally from Los Angeles/Orange County, Sarah moved to San Diego when she started college. She is a sophomore and hopes to one day hold a CEO or managerial position in the financial industry. However, Sarah has a passion to help make math make sense to kids because she knows, first hand, the frustration attached with the subject. With her personal experience at Mathnasium, Sarah found difficult classes, such as Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus, to be much easier. She believes that any kids that have difficulty with math should learn the Mathnasium method.
In her spare time, Sarah loves to play and watch basketball, read, and spend time with friends.
