Our Team
Angela is originally from England, where she earned her degree in Physics with Medical Applications from the University of London. She is also an ACCA (UK) certified accountant. She moved to the United States in 1995 after working overseas for three years in Asia. She worked for 17 years in the finance industry before embarking on a new journey with Mathnasium to fulfill her desire to give back to the community and build strong math students in Montclair's schools.
John spent 10 years as a Bell Labs scientist in the field of telecommunications and photonics. He earned his bachelor degree in EE from Stevens Institute of Technology, and also holds MS Degrees in Optics and EE from the University of Rochester and Columbia University. He left research to pursue a legal career, obtaining his JD from Rutgers Law School. For more than 6 years he worked in New York as an IP attorney, helping independent inventors and corporations protect their inventions. John is currently a solo practitioner where his skills in math, science and law are constantly being challenged. John’s passion for teaching math developed from working with his children, as well as from volunteering at their elementary schools. John is a member of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New Jersey.
Gloria earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Mathematics from The City College of New York and Northwestern University. She holds teaching certificates (K-12) from New York and New Jersey. After teaching Mathematics for ten years on both the high school and college levels, Gloria pursued a career in computers and obtained her MBA from Fairleigh Dickson University. She has worked for such firms as Merrill Lynch, Smith Barney and Deutsche Bank in the United States, Singapore, and Austria. Gloria has a great love for teaching and strives to convey her passion for math to her students.
Abby is a Montclair native and a senior at Rutgers University where she will graduate with a B.A. in History. She has been working as a math tutor at Rutgers since 2009. Previously, she has worked with children and young adults as a Hebrew tutor, acting coach and caregiver. Abby is greatly looking forward to combining these two interests and working with young people to develop skills and interest in mathematics!
Lauren Peacock has been teaching middle school mathematics for seven years. She has an undergraduate degree in mathematics education from Syracuse University. She is certified in 7th-12th grade mathematics. Lauren is also currently pursuing a masters in mathematics education from the University of Phoenix, which will be completed in June of 2012. She enjoys working with students of all ages, and loves to help students discover a passion for mathematics.
Shawn comes to Mathnasium with a Bachelor's degree in Math and a Master's degree in Adolescent Education from Ithaca College. Shawn has several years of experience working with children, teenagers and young adults, as a teacher, tutor and coach. He holds a teaching certificate (K-12) from New Jersey, and has taught up to calculus in high school.
