Shellie earned both bachelors and masters degrees in math, and has a teaching certificate for secondary math in Ohio. She has many years of math education experience, including teaching Algebra at the University of Louisville and at Indiana University Southeast. She has also taught Algebra II and Calculus at Sacred Heart Academy and was nominated as first year teacher of the year for the 1996-97 school year. More recently, Shellie has worked at Kindred Healthcare, doing reporting and statistical analysis for the IT Department. Shellie loved the experience of teaching math and helping students to “discover” the different concepts presented. The biggest frustration that she found was trying to teach to the majority of the students, but knowing that a number of the students were not being challenged while others were not able to keep up. The Mathnasium system allows her to individualize the program for each student to best supplement their school curriculum and help them achieve success.

Bruce has worked as an aircraft maintenance specialist in the U.S. Air Force, and as a heating, air conditioning and refrigeration technician for several years. For the past 15 years, Bruce has owned and operated his own landscaping and lawn care business. Bruce and his wife Shellie work very well together, and when they learned about Mathnasium, they felt it was a perfect fit for them. With Bruce’s small business background, and Shellie’s math teaching certification and experience, Mathnasium provides a wonderful opportunity to use both of their skills to help the children in their community succeed.
