Lakshmi has a Bachelor’s Degree in computer science from India, and a second Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin. While working with a non-profit organization and tutoring middle school students in math, Lakshmi became aware of the achievement gap that exists among school age children and how schools are not able to help every individual overcome the obstacles that keep them from progressing and enjoying math.
Lakshmi’s father, who is her role model and guide, is a teacher by profession, and has inspired her to follow in his footsteps. She was attracted to Mathnasium because of the difference she can make in a child's life and the chance to inspire them. She has observed that many kids are intimidated and afraid of math and she looks forward to the opportunity to help the children in her community learn to love numbers and math as she does.
Lakshmi feels blessed with a wonderful family and enjoys spending time with them and doing crosswords and sudoku puzzles in her spare time.
David has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and a Teacher’s Certification in Secondary Education. He started working for Mathnasium in October 2009 and took the position of Assistant Director after he graduated from college in May 2010.
He enjoys doing math and likes the puzzle and problem solving aspect of math. He also enjoys working with students and helping them realize that math is not as scary as it may seem at first.
Diane has a bachelor's degree in mathematics education from Bowling Green State University and a Master's Degree from State University of New York, College at New Paltz. Her teaching experiences range from junior high through college level courses. Diane was also employed by IBM, where she worked as a software engineer for nine years, and as development manager for thirteen years. After retirement from IBM, Diane has been delighted to become a teacher at Mathnasium where she has the opportunity to inspire young people to enjoy and excel in mathematics.
Court Hoang graduated from Pomona College in 2010 with a degree in Math and a minor in Theatre Performance. He returned to the U.S. in 2011 after a year spent teaching in Vietnam, and is glad to be working with students again. His love for math didn't come about until college, so he wants to help students find an interest in math from a younger age and to understand that everyone makes mistakes, but the only way to fail is to give up. He loves music and also works as a musician when he's not at the center.
Zain is currently a freshman pursuing a double-major in Pre-
Physical Therapy and Islamic Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Zain plans on becoming a
certified physical therapist.
He really enjoys working with the students at Mathnasium because he believes that Math is
much more than just a bunch of boring numbers and wants the students to feel the same way.
Outside of Mathnasium, Zain is the quarterback of an Austin based flag football team called the
Austin Aces. He enjoys scary movies and books, playing chess and cooking in his spare time.
Zach lived in Plano, TX all of his life, graduating from Plano Senior High and then moving onto UT-Dallas. After graduating with a BS in Business Administration, he took a semester off to figure out what he wanted to do, which ultimately became math education, stemming from his interest in it throughout his undergraduate career. Zach pursued his MAT in Math Education and finished in December 2011, learning more and more about the mindset of students as they progress through grade school through a few research projects. After a busy college career he got engaged to his long-time girlfriend Rachel and moved to Austin to finally start pursuing ways to influence and change the education system as well as he can. In his downtown, Zach loves video games, music, art, the Kansas City Chiefs, reading, and general great times with friends. He can't see his life going any other way then it is right now, and he hopes he can make a difference.
