  2. Dolca has a celebration party when she receives the news of her new loan. If there were 23 people that came to the party and 5 were friends, 10 were family members, and the rest Mathnasium students, how many Mathnasium students went to the party?
Upper Elementary / Middle School
  1. Peru gained its independence in 1821. The United States’ Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. How many years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence did Peru gain independence?
  2. There are many bikers who bike on a road next to Dolca’s house. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, there were 5 each day. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, there were 40 each day. What is the average number of bikes per day during that week?
  3. Suppose Mathnasium bought a bus to go visit Pucallpa and see how Dolca is doing. If the bus can travel at a constant rate of 70 miles per hour, how many minutes would it take to drive to Pucallpa, Peru in a straight line?
Kids: What to Think About When You Make a Loan

Your Kiva loan has a loan period (usually between 6 months and a year) and a loan amount. 
  1. You have donated $25 of that total amount. Write these two numbers below.
  2. What percent of the total loan amount did you give?
  3. Using these, can you figure out how much money will be paid back to you each month?
  4. How much money will the loan recipient pay back total each month (to you and every other person who loaned him or her money)
