Mike Mulvey, Owner/Manager
Mike graduated with a B.Arch from UCT in South Africa majoring in design, management, and engineering. Mike is a self-confessed "Math Nerd", a licensed Architect and a long-time member of the RIBA, British Mensa and Toastmasters.
James Pinato, Center Director
James earned his BS in pure mathematics, graduating from UC Irvine in 2012. Since then, he traveled the world before landing at Mathnasium of Poway in 2013. He has loved working with his students ever since. With a decade of working with kids and mathematics, he brings his mathematical precision with his educational expertise to help make Mathnasium of Poway as great as it can possibly be!
Favorite Math Topic: Abstract Algebra & Cryptography
Hobbies: I enjoy playing video games at the highest level of play. You can regularly find me on Blizzard Entertainment titles, ranking among the top players in the world.
Fun Fact About Me: Although mathematics was my first major at University, I spent two years pursuing a Chemical Engineering degree. I realized that chemical engineering was not for me, and so I went back to math during my junior year. I wound up taking seven quarters of upper division math courses in five quarters. It was definitely a time to be alive.
Favorite Math Joke: A mathematician organizes a lottery in which the prize is an infinite amount of money. When the winning ticket is drawn, and the jubilant winner comes to claim his prize, the mathematician explains the mode of payment: "1 dollar now, 1/2 dollar next week, 1/3 dollar the week after that..."
Samantha Kasold, Lead Instructor
Samantha graduated from Poway High School and is currently pursuing her K-8 teaching credential. She has always loved working with kids and watching their skills grow.
Favorite Math Topic: Trigonometry
Hobbies: Collecting Star Wars memorabilia, making Metal Earth figurines, and watching the sunset
Fun Fact About Me: Proficient in drawing in three dimensions, and I am a certified ninja (3rd-Degree black belt)

Greg Frederickson, Instructor
I discovered my passion for mathematics when a friend convinced me to take Math 150 (College Calculus I) as a junior in high school. At the time, I was a sophomore taking Algebra II, but I did it and loved it.
Favorite Math Topic: Probability
Hobbies: Video games, Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons
Fun Fact About Me: I am a certified level one Magic: The Gathering judge.
Favorite Math Joke: I'll do algebra. I'll do calculus. I'll even do trigonometry. But graphing is where I draw the line.

I am a Computer Science major and a self-described Mathemagician. I have been not-self-described as extremely literal and extremely sarcastic.

Larry Martinek, Chief Instructional Officer, Developer of Mathnasium Program.
Larry has spent his entire career finding a better way to teach math. From inner city to public schools, to acclaimed magnet schools, to leading private and parochial schools, Larry has served as both a classroom teacher and as an educational consultant. He has designed curriculum, teaching strategies, and teaching materials designed to help students and teachers learn math more effectively. He has trained teachers in the art and science of boosting students' ability to “do” math, thereby increasing students' math scores and feeling of self-worth. Larry is the developer of Mathnasium’s educational program – one of the most comprehensive and innovative curriculas ever produced for teaching math.
While Larry is not an Instructor at our Center, He is a valuable asset we can call on to ask about specific students' scenarios for guidance and advice. This has helped to make visits more productive and enjoyable for many of our students.
