Our Team

Miles Ulrich, Owner
Miles has had a passion for math since he won his first math contest in third grade. Since retiring from Microsoft, Miles has shared his passion with children of all ages while teaching and tutoring math, science, and computer programming. He believes strongly that math can be accessible to all students if presented in an effective format that engages the student at their level. After discovering Mathnasium, Miles realized he could make a bigger difference with the Mathnasium program than he could while working in the public or private schools. After acquiring a B.S. in Mathematics, Miles then worked in the software industry for 25 years. He helped develop the first bank-by-phone system for Bank of America straight out of college. Later, as VP of Technology for Wall Data, Miles played an important role in growing the company from the startup phase to a $120M public company. Then, up until 2005, Miles managed development groups at Microsoft. Miles has also been a river guide and ski instructor. He and his wife Kathy homeschool all four of their children.
Jeff Troy, Director
Jeff has several years as a teacher and a tutor at the high school and college level, including three years experience as a Mathnasium instructor. Jeff enjoys the freedom of the Mathnasium methods as well as the emphasis on teaching concepts over solutions. Jeff received his degree in mathematics from Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia - but he still considers himself a lifelong Washingtonian. He met his wife at Northshore Junior High and graduated from Inglemoor in 1995. In his spare time, Jeff is an avid artist and freelance writer who has been published in a variety of publications including the Lake Stevens Journal, the Prism Literary Magazine, and Loudest Girl Parenting Journal.
