Our Team

Jean Friedrich, Director
Jean Friedrich has more than twenty years of experience teaching in California public schools. She has taught every grade from kindergarten through fifth grade. She has a Masters degree in curriculum with a math specialist certificate from CSUS. She has served as a mentor for the Northern California Mathematics Project where she met her husband, Jim. She has also worked as a teacher trainer for local districts and the California State Department of Education. She has a great passion for teaching math and has been able to pass that passion along to countless other educators. Jean currently teaches third grade on a half-time contract so that she may spend more time with her four children who have all inherited their parents' love of mathematics. She is very excited about the Mathnasium curriculum because it teaches in a way that all great math teachers would if they had the time to do so. She looks forward to many "AHAH" moments with children who just may surprise themselves and develop a love of mathematics also.
James Friedrich, Director
James Friedrich has been teaching for over 30 years in private and public schools throughout the Sacramento area. He has a Masters Degree in Mathematics Education, a National Board Certification in AYA Mathematics and is a grader for the College Board for the AP Calculus BC exam. He continues to teach high school mathematics, (AP Statistics and AP Calculus), conduct outdoor math-steeple chase competitions, and finds time to play with his four children. "I am blessed to have married a wonderful woman who shares my passion for education, especially mathematics education. Together we have successfully (so far) raised four children who I hope will be partners in our endeavor. We would like to run a 'family' business sharing our gifts with the Roseville community."
Jordan Van Parys, Instructor
Jordan Van Parys graduated from Center High School in 2009 and is currently attending Sacramento State University. She is majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting. She is interested in graduate school and would like to pursue a career as a certified public accountant. Jordan was influenced by her high school math teachers, who helped her appreciate and understand math. She wants to help students gain knowledge and confidence in math.
Elena MacDonald, Instructor
Elena is in her final year at Sacramento State University. She is studying teacher education and minoring in math. She has always enjoyed teaching and working with children and has gained much experience doing so. Upon graduating this spring, she plans to complete the multiple subject credential program and then receive a single subject credential in math. She attributes her passion for math and the success she’s had in it to the good teachers she’s had over the years. She hopes to pass this passion and success on to her own students here and in the future.
Mark Harris, Instructor
Mark attended Oakmont High School from 2003-2007. He graduated with a 3.7 GPA and is currently enrolled at Sierra College as an applied math major. He likes to teach because it is enjoyable to watch students grow in a field they initially dislike but learn to understand and enjoy it. Mark's career goals are to teach at either a high school or college level.
