Tan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He has worked more than 22 years in the semiconductor industry. He received awards for outstanding customer service, leadership in manufacturing yield enhancement, and power consumption reduction. He holds 5 U.S. patents. Tan’s original goal, upon leaving the corporate world, was to become a full time math teacher. While substitute teaching, he realized that the classroom setting does not provide him with the opportunity to help all those who needed it, in the way that he wants to help them, and he began to search for other ways to accomplish his goals.
In Mathnasium, he found the perfect vehicle to fulfill his goals of teaching math to children in his community and to provide excellent service to the students of Austin and the surrounding areas.
Tan was born and raised in Viet Nam. He moved to the United States as a teenager, where he was warmly welcomed by his new neighbors in the Texas communities. He has lived and worked in Israel, and worked on joint projects with engineering teams around the world. Austin is Tan’s hometown since 1976, where he resides with his wife and son.
My name is Sarah and I am currently a student at the University of Texas at Austin majoring in Economics and minoring in both Spanish and Business. I plan on doing something in the business field once I graduate. I'm a born-and-raised Austinite and love this city! I'm enthusiastic, I enjoy spending time with my friends, and of course love shopping for fun. I really enjoy working at Mathnasium and getting to meet and work with a lot of really great kids. I really like math, especially teaching it, and nothing is better than to see a student have an "aha!" moment or be able to understand something new and be confident about it. I'm so amazed and blessed to be able watch the outstanding progress of our students. I'm also lucky to be able to experience such a positive, enjoyable, and fun learning environment for both myself and students alike!

Hello. My name is Patrick Chou and I am currently a senior at the University of Texas at Austin. I am pursuing a degree in biochemistry with a minor in business. After I graduate, I plan on continuing my studies to receive a Masters in Supply Chain and Operations Research degree from graduate school. I started learning math at a very young age, partially due to my parents will, but also of my own accord. By the time I finished elementary school, I had taught myself calculus. Thus, I decided to skip a grade in math at school. Upon entering high school, I continued my pursuits in math by joining the school’s math & science team and went on to win several number sense/math competitions as well as placing third in the state. Eventually, I became the president of my school’s math & science club and began my math tutoring career as a sophomore in high school. I have been tutoring math of all levels ever since and have always enjoyed it. In my free time, I like to play tennis and basketball with my friends as well as the piano and drums. I also like to play several computer games such as starcraft 2 and counterstrike.

While she loves teaching and working with younger kids, she hopes to someday teach at the university level. Sara will be moving to St. Louis at the end of the summer to begin her PhD studies in Biology at Washington University, but first, she can’t wait to honeymoon in Singapore after her July 1 wedding!
