Our Team

Karen Roussos, Owner
Karen Roussos and her family have lived in Southlake for over 7 years. Karen has a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and has worked for companies such as Intel Corporation and Texas Instruments. She is also an entrepreneur and has started other successful small businesses. They have 3 children in the Carroll ISD.

Karen is very excited to bring Mathnasium to Southlake and make math enjoyable and challenging for your child and convenient for the parent. Karen believes that once a student truly understands and masters the key concepts of math, they will gain confidence in their math skills and increase their problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

We will help your child in our center, not send them home with more homework!

Meredith Jones, Center Director
Meredith Jones and her husband live in Roanoke. Her two greatest passions are math and their dog, Sam. Meredith studied Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma for two years, and then decided to earn her degree in Mathematics in order to teach. She has taught 9th Grade Algebra I and tutored for many years.

Meredith is overjoyed to have the opportunity to share her passion with children of all ages. She loves explaining why things work the way they work and boosting every child’s self-confidence. She feels so blessed to have a job that she is so passionate about.

We are here to develop a child’s number sense and fluency; we will never answer a question with, “because I said so.”

Colin Campbell, Lead Instructor
Colin Campbell goes to school at the University of North Texas and studies mathematical analysis. He has lived in the DFW area for 26 years and has tutored in this area for a little over 6 years. He currently resides in Denton, Texas.

When not tutoring, Colin spends his time programming, solving math problems, entertaining his two cats and two dogs, and engineering musical works in various studios. Phi is his favorite math constant.

"The essence of mathematics is its freedom." -Georg Cantor

Gary Blanton, Instructor
Gary Blanton and his wife, Rebecca, have lived in Colleyville for 14 years. Gary has a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a master’s degree in Information Technology.

Gary’s career in Information Technology spanned 35 years. He recently retired as Senior Director of Technology Services for a Fortune 300 company in the Metroplex. In addition to tutoring mathematics, Gary is a Child Advocate with CASA (court appointed special advocates) of Tarrant County where he advocates on behalf of children in foster care.

Gary enjoys working with children and especially enjoys helping them reach their full potential. His favorite quote is the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Luke 6:31

Mitch Spradlin, Instructor
Mitch Spradlin is a senior at Carroll Senior High School in Southlake, where he has lived for the past four years. He was born outside of Chicago and has lived in Houston, Pennsylvania, and Austin. He has had a long-time interest in Math and the Sciences, competing in various academic competitions and the 2009 State Science Fair. He has worked as a tutor in and outside of school and is highly involved in the Carroll Band Program. Mitch lives at home with his parents, two brothers and his two dogs Abby and Molly.

Mitch loves the very structured and effective curriculum at Mathnasium. He enjoys helping others learn, which is exactly what Mathnasium allows him to do. He hopes to continue to instruct at Mathnasium for as long as he can.

"The essence of Mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple." - Stan Gudder

Jacob Gann, Instructor
Jacob Gann has lived in Tarrant County for 24 years. He has extensive experience working with children from ages 2 to 18 in a variety of settings. Examples include day care, youth camps, and athletic instruction.

Jacob has positively leapt at the opportunity to help children improve their math skills. He greatly enjoys relating the subject to important parts of his students’ everyday lives. More than just helping kids do homework, Jacob wants to show them how to solve problems.

Math leads to logic, logic leads to reason; reason leads to happiness.

Rick Mauderer, Instructor
Rick was born in Iowa and spent most of his childhood moving back and forth between Iowa and Minnesota. He and his wife have a 17 year old senior who loves his drum set, and a 16 year old sophomore who loves her French Horn (although he could swear it has a German accent to it!!) He remembers sitting in 9th grade Algebra class in a small town in Iowa looking at his Math teacher/Football Coach, thinking, “How can such a cool guy end up being a math teacher??” He then went on to earn a degree in chemistry with minors in physics and – you guessed it – MATH! He has taught high school physics, geometry, algebra, algebra 2, chemistry, environmental science, and physical science. He also teaches rock climbing and repelling, loves to scuba dive, and do a host of other fun and cool stuff.

Along the way, Rick has helped to direct a Christian adventure camp in Wyoming, having played guitar for over 40 years – even professionally, and being in a band voted best band in Tarrant County by the Star Telegram readers in 1999-2000. He has also been a youth and worship pastor, and is now a high school assistant principal turned district coordinator of technical projects. He is nearly finished with his PhD in Curriculum and Instruction, and will have a minor in statistics.

Fun Fact: Rick has 4 dogs, 2 cats and a snake? (no, we are not kidding!)

Jenni Klooster, Instructor
Jenni Klooster has lived in Tarrant County for 25 years. She currently resides in Euless with her husband, David. Jenni graduated from L.D. Bell High School in 2003, earned her Bachelor’s degree from Baylor University in 2007, and received her Master’s of Science degree from Texas A&M University in 2009. She currently works at Texas Health HEB hospital as the Exercise Physiologist in Cardiac Rehabilitation.

Jenni enjoys working with kids of all ages and has had experience teaching at the University level as a Teaching Assistant for the Biology department while working on her graduate degree. Jenni has a passion for students to gain a full understanding of math concepts and skills, and she believes it is crucial for students to have a good math sense starting at the primary grade levels. She thoroughly enjoys seeing students grasp math concepts for the first time, and she believes every student has the ability to succeed in math.

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people - Colossians 3:23.

Fred McLaughlin, Instructor
Fred recently moved to Southlake from the Midwest with his fiancé, Karen, and several four-legged creatures! For 40 years, Fred taught High School Mathematics, coached Basketball, Football and Track and loved every minute of it! By teaching in a very small community (800 residents), over time, Fred was teaching the children of his former students. One could rarely go anywhere in town without meeting someone who had been in his class.

After “retirement”, something felt wrong. That wrong was righted when Fred went back to teaching math at Black Hawk Community College. Now that he has moved to Texas and connected with Mathnasium, Fred feels very much at home being able to teach and inspire a new group of eager, junior mathematicians!
