Larry Martinek

Chief Instructional Office

Larry has spent his entire career finding a better way to teach math. From inner-city to public schools to acclaimed magnet schools to leading private and parochial schools, Larry has served as a classroom teacher and as an educational consultant. He has designed curriculum, teaching strategies, and teaching materials to help students and teachers learn math more effectively. He has trained teachers in the art and science of boosting students’ ability to “do” math, thereby increasing students’ math scores and feeling of self-worth. Larry is the developer of Mathnasium’s educational program, one of the most comprehensive and innovative curriculums ever produced for teaching math. While Larry is not an instructor at our Center, he is a valuable asset we can call on to ask about specific students' scenarios for guidance and advice. This has helped to make visits more productive and enjoyable for many of our students.

On a mission to take the 'fear' out of math My job is to make sure every student loves their math experience here and develops solid Math confidence. I have been a math enthusiast all my student years and have found the Mathnasium method to be the best method of teaching math. I was a calculus student in high school ( A grade) and a Math major in college and I believe every child has the potential to excel at math if they are taught the concepts in the right way. Their 'aha' moment when they finally get an elusive concept makes my day! I help children arrive at their own understanding of math concepts and learn how to solve for answers rather than memorize 'math facts'. That is the first building block for a lifetime of 'Math Confidence'. An avid hiker, I have hiked many northeast US trails and have even tumbled down a mountain once. But I didn't give up -- I still hike every chance I get!

Cara McDaniel

Lead Instructor

Cara is soft spoken and has a gentle touch. She's perfect for those quiet students who don't love attention. However, she is also a phenomenal nerd. She is a board game enthusiast and has even attempted to create her own board games. She is a pokemon finatic and a wealth of information on the matter. She is also deeply familiar with video games. Current, and all the past games. Honestly, you can ask her most anything about video games or pokemon and she will likely have lots to share. She is also a phenomenal story teller. She has written many DnD campaigns and was a storyteller at her LARP for quite some time.

REDACTED is a competitive gamer highly interested in internet security. As a result, he prefers his name does not appear on the web. Hence the redactions. REDACTED is also brilliant with computers. For fun, he likes to create an operating system in a virtual machine and unleash a virus to assess the damage it causes. REDACTED is also a puzzle master and a Rubik's cube enthusiast. REDACTED is perfect for our energetic students and particularly gamers. He understands high levels of math and has the patience to explain complex concepts in ways our students can truly understand.
