Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Luke Hartung

Center Director
Luke is graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Applied Management from Grand Canyon University. In his previous experience, he helped connect families with programs and resources while working for the city of Santa Clarita’s parks and recreation department. He was also an enrollment coordinator for a child care company. Luke loves helping children to understand new concepts and to overcome challenges, and is thrilled to have that opportunity at Mathnasium. Luke loves Santa Clarita and looks forward to helping students in the community to learn and master math and to grow in their confidence. He strives to make Mathnasium a place where students are warmly welcomed and given the individual instruction and support they need to succeed. He loves spending his spare time gardening, going to the beach, and hiking the beautiful Southern California mountains.

Nick van Vliet

Operations Director
Nick graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business Finance from Cal State University Northridge. He first joined the Mathnasium team in 2014 after learning about the impact that Mathnasium was making in students' lives. After working as the Center Director in Irvine for 2 years, in Diamond Bar & Phoenix for 5 years, he decided to help serve his home town of Santa Clarita and helps to run 2 centers here. He is committed to creating an encouraging environment where students can build confidence and conquer math while still having fun. His goal is to ensure that students have an effective, engaging, and encouraging learning experience that cultivates an intuitive understanding of math. Nick loves teaching, coaching, and encouraging students to work hard and rise up to their potential. In his spare time he enjoys playing sports, snowboarding, competing in any game known to man, bbqs, and reading.

Enoch

Instructor
Enoch is currently a freshman attending College of the Canyons. He is majoring in nursing and wants to pursue becoming a nurse anesthetist. Enoch enjoys being able to help kids understand concepts of math because he loves to see their brains light up when they understand what has been puzzling them for such a long time and how they can use these ideas in real life. Outside of school and work, he likes to longboard, listen to music, drink milkshakes, hang out with friends, jam on his drumset, and play basketball.

Giselly

Instructor
Giselly is a hard-working 11th grader at Valencia High school, currently taking pre-calculus. She loves math, and helping the kids at Mathnasium love it too. Art is her favorite subject, and she plans on pursuing a career in illustration, to write and draw children’s books. On her free time, Giselly likes to go out with friends, draw, and play her favorite songs on guitar!

Jared

Instructor
Jared is currently a student at California State University, Northridge, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems with a concentration in Computer Information Technology. After graduating, he hopes to pursue a law degree in intellectual property. In his free time, he is constantly looking for new things to learn. He especially enjoys learning all kinds of languages, and believes math is just another one. Jared discovered his heart for teaching after going on a mission trip to Japan and teaching some of the local kids English. He is very excited and motivated to help kids be the best at math they can be!

Kate

Instructor
Kate is a college graduate from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. She received her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology, and has current plans to pursue becoming a nurse practitioner. Kate is the middle child out of three brothers, and often helped her little brother with math growing up. She also was a mathlete in both elementary and middle school! Kate enjoys working with kids to understand math because she enjoys watching their confidence grow and see how Mathnasium’s curriculum really makes math “click” in their heads, especially if they have been struggling with a concept for awhile. When she is not in the center, Kate enjoys spending time with her family, talking with friends, watching shows, and playing video games.

Jeremiah

Instructor
Jeremiah is a senior at West Ranch High school. Jeremiah has been very passionate with math ever since he was a kid and wants to spread his love for math to younger peers. He has had experience in and out of Mathnasium when it comes to tutoring kids about math and computer science. Outside of academics, Jeremiah loves to hang out with friends, listen to music, and watch shows.

Rachel

Instructor
Rachel is a current junior at Academy of the Canyons Middle College High School. While she completes her high school courses, she is considering a career path in teaching or physical therapy. Rachel loves teaching math to students her age and younger; she tutors at her school for Algebra 2, alongside teaching at Mathnasium. Rachel enjoys working with kids and loves watching the students she works with find community and develop confidence in their ability to learn at Mathnasium. During her free time, Rachel enjoys rollerblading, watching One Piece, and spending time with her dog, family, and friends.

Layla

Instructor
Layla is currently pursuing a biology degree at the College of the Canyons, in hopes of becoming an orthodontist in the future! Math has always been one of Layla's favorite subjects throughout school, and her passion continues to develop with time. What truly drives her is working with children. At Mathnasium, she is dedicated to helping young minds discover their math potential, and fostering confidence, curiosity, and creativity. Layla truly believes that math can be fun for everyone! When not in the education setting, you'll find her outdoors, often at the beach, where she finds inspiration and balance!

Nico

Instructor
Nico is currently attending College of the Canyons majoring in Economics. Nico finds joy in helping students understand and learn to love math the same way he does. Not only does he want students to be able to understand and work through math problems, but be able to apply the same learning and problem solving skills in real life. Outside of work, Nico likes to watch, coach, and play basketball, hang out with friends, eat great food, and spend time with his family.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
