Our Team
Mark has a B.S. in Mathematics from California State University, Los Angeles and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Following a twenty-year career in the computer industry, Mark earned his Illinois teacher certification in secondary school mathematics from National-Louis University in 2007. He has since taught mathematics as a high school and college instructor. Mark feels that Mathansium offers him a wealth of resources to pursue his long-standing interest in identifying and using intriguing mathematical facts and engaging problems to make math a source of achievement and enjoyment for students of all ages and abilities. Mark is especially proud to have Mathnasium West DePaul support the academic achievement that involved parents, children, and teachers maintain throughout the many neighborhoods and diverse population that is the city of Chicago.
Mark and his wife Kathy live in Chicago’s South Loop. They have two sons, Ira and Garret.
Krista earned a Bachelor degree in Mathematics from Northwestern University and a Masters degree in Education from DePaul University. She has over seven years of experience teaching elementary students at area schools including St. Clement, St. Mary of the Angels, and The Francis Parker School. Before joining Mathnasium she worked professionally as a tutor across a range of subjects and grades, including standard test preparation. Krista recently authored and illustrated "Giants in the Park: A Guide to Portrait Statues in Chicago's Lincoln Park" (Lincoln Park Press, 2011. http://www.lincolnparkstatues.com).
Ashley earned her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She earned a Master of Education in Teaching and Learning and Illinois Initial Secondary Certificate in Mathematics from DePaul Univeristy. She has taught grades 6-8 as a substitute teacher and grades K-3 during a one year program in Seoul, South Korea. Ashley has also performed numerous hours of observation and student teaching at various schools throughout the Chicago area as part of her teacher training. Ashley recently accepted a full time teaching position, but we hope to see her back at Mathnasium when her schedule permits.
Mitch Graham is currently enrolled at DePaul University with a major in Actuarial Science. Mitch has his sights set on joining Teach For America upon graduation. Mitch is an energetic and knowledgeable instructor whose rapport with students makes learning effective and fun.
Shanna received her B.A. from the University of Michigan. She is currently pursuing her M.A. in Education at DePaul University. Shanna is presently responsible for our First Steps program delivery and development, in addition to her role as a Power Math instructor. Shanna's subject matter expertise, and love of math, teaching, and kids are evident each day at Mathnasium.
Nicole is a recent graduate of DePaul University with a B.S. in Pure Mathematical Sciences with a focus in Applied and Computational Mathematics. And she still believes math is fun! At DePaul she continues to help other undergraduates succeed in math studies through tutoring, and other supports. She has served as a teacher's assistant, research assistant, and supplemental instruction leader. While she pursues a graduate degree in Actuarial Sciences, she is helping our Mathnasium students have fun and excel.
Kyle is currently pursuing his goal of becoming a high school math teacher. He is a senior enrolled at DePaul University majoring in Mathematics and English. Kyle's academic resume includes The Jakarta International High School in Jakarta, Indonesia. Kyle has been the recipient of various scholastic and athletic honors including the New Hampshire Scholar Athlete Award (2008). Prior to joining Mathnasium Kyle worked as a tutor a Senn High School in Chicago. Kyle's subject matter expertise and his natural ability to relate to students of all ages make him perfect fit at Mathnasium.
Julie is a welcome addition to our Mathnasium West DePaul team. She earned her B.S. in Mathematics from UIC where she also managed the UIC Student Recreation Facility. In addition to her Mathnasium role, Julie is both Infant Team Leader and Lead Teacher for a local daycare provider. Julie promises to be a great Power Math instructor who also figures prominently in our continuing First Steps program development. She is also CPR/AED Professional Rescuer Certified and First Aid Certified.
Bindi comes to Mathnasium with a B.S. in Mathematics from UIC. She is currently pursuing a Master of Art's in Secondary Education from Concordia University in River Forest, IL. She is fluent in the Indian dialect, Gujarati. Bindi has helped finance her education since 2006 as a pharmacy technician for Walgreen's. The patience and multi-tasking skills she practices in the pharmacy are valuable qualities she brings to her role as a Mathnasium instructor. Our students benefit from having Bindi share not only her math knowledge, but the and determination she she applies in pursuing her education and career goals.
Kamieshia is currently a junior at DePaul University studying Mathematical Sciences. Her DePaul math studies have included both Calculus III and Multivariable Calculus. (As a H.S. senior she achieved a level 5 on the AP Calculus test.) Kamieshia also brings early childhood learning experience to Mathnasium, including lesson plan development for various subjects. At Mathnasium we help students of all ages an abilities. Kamieshia is an exceptional asset in that effort.
Just as an instructor guides and promotes a child’s learning, so does the environment where that learning takes place.
