Michelle Maiers-Atakpu

Co-Owner
Michelle has been a practicing Architect for over 30 years, using Math on a daily basis! She understands the importance of having a strong foundation in Mathematics so as to give a child unlimited options for his or her future. Michelle graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree. She and Peter have been married for over 40 years, have 2 grown children (one is a Math teacher!), 4 grandchildren and have lived in the White Bear Lake community for over 30 years. When she and Peter decided to open a Mathnasium Center, she knew they would be helping kids improve their Math Skills. What she didn't know is that once kids start to understand and excel in Math, their confidence soars, and many times their overall school grades improve. Kids who start out hating Math, and are resistant to enrollment at Mathnasium, find out that working on their Math deficiencies will help to make their current school work easier. Michelle is grateful to be part of a business that changes lives everyday!

Lori Sevre

Instructor
Lori has been teaching junior and senior high math for 30 years. After graduating with a BS in Secondary Education Mathematics, she lived in Michigan for 18 years teaching in a small private school where she taught many different math classes, coached several sports, and worked as a yearbook adviser. Her favorite class to teach was 12th grade Personal Finance where the seniors learned, among many things, to balance a checkbook, do their taxes, and to use credit wisely. After spending a year substitute teaching in the Twin Cities where her family resides, she moved to New York and taught Algebra I, II, Geometry, and Pre Calculus for 10 years. She has recently returned to MN to be with her family and has enjoyed teaching at Mathnasium. Favorite number: 8! My Birthday is the 8th month and I love that it is an even number. Favorite math joke: What did the acorn say when he was all grown up? Gee, I’m a tree! Fun fact: While living in NY, I attended over 20 Broadway shows. I love Broadway! In five years I will be: Continuing to educate young minds. I love Mathnasium because: I love the organization of it all, and I love that the young people are growing every time we meet. It is rewarding to see the “light come on” in each session.

Mark Rueter

Instructor
Mark spent 32 years teaching seventh grade Pre-Algebra and Algebra. Mark enjoyed integrating kite design and flying into Trigonometry, Fantasy Baseball into Statistics, Transformation Golf onto Geometry, and numerous hands on activities to develop the meaning of mathematical concepts. Mark also coached the MathCounts and Junior High Math teams. In 2021, Mark and his wife, Mary, moved to St. Paul to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Away from Mathnasium, Mark likes to design and build in his workshop, go fishing and camping, and get out to explore. Mark enjoys working at Mathnasium because he can engage with motivated students who want to better understand mathematics.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
