Larry Shannon, Center Director/Co-Owner
Larry holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Colorado State University and a Master of Science in Computer Science from Arizona State University. As an undergraduate, he tutored math for the Athletic Department at CSU and as a graduate student, he taught computer language classes. His early career experiences were with General Electric and Honeywell as a software engineer which included designing, teaching, and managing computer programming and analysis courses. He later launched his own computer systems consulting firm. For the last 21 years, as a senior systems analyst in the world of Child Human Services Information Technology, he was a senior member of the Technical Team for the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS). Over the years Larry has been involved in teaching and counseling with youth and young adults as a part of his volunteer church service. With his lifelong passion for math and teaching, he has always kept his eye on math as he tutored his children and numerous grandchildren. Since his college days, he has frequently told his family: "When I grow up, I am going to teach high school math!" Larry brings to the Mathnasium table his love of math; his friendly teaching and presentation skills; his strong ability to bridge knowledge gaps between students and technology; and the understanding of how a child's "math challenges" can destroy self-esteem and close the doors of opportunity and success in their future. He is an enthusiastic player for Mathnasium and is excited about the opportunity and ability to touch the lives of children through the Mathnasium Method. He is committed to improving your child's math skills and consequently improving their chances for happiness and the potential for their success in the future. Nicholas Snodgrass, Instructor
Nicholas Snodgrass has taken a wide array of math classes; linear algebra, differential equations, all three semesters of calculus, and numerical methods. He is currently enrolled in applied experimental statistics, system dynamics and controls, and aerospace structures and materials. He is currently a Junior at ASU, majoring in Aerospace Engineering, and has a 3.75 GPA. Nick tutors in the math lab along with his tutoring at Mathnasium. He enjoys playing in his band (Westcott Avenue), working out and hanging out with friends. Nick enjoys helping others learn math hopes to show students how enjoyable math can be.
Bailey Williams, Instructor
Bailey is currently a freshman at Grand Canyon University working towards her Bachelors of Elementary Education. In High school, Bailey was enrolled in Geometry Honors, Pre-Calculus Honors, Calculus AB, along with Probability and Statistics. Not only is Bailey an excellent tutor but she also achieved a score of 710 points, out of 800 points, on the math portion of the SAT. In addition, she achieved a 29 out of 36 on the ACT. Bailey says the best part of working at Mathnasium is seeing students gain more confidence in their math abilities. In her free time, she enjoys puzzles, going for runs with friends, and watching soccer.
Chris Laurel, Instructor
Chris Laurel graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2017 with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Arizona State University. Chris currently works at the Arizona Department of Public Safety (the state police department) in the crime laboratory. Chris enjoys going to car shows, watching sports, and tutoring students in Mathematics and Chemistry.
Andrew Maw, Instructor
Andrew Maw is currently a senior at Arizona State University and is majoring in Computer Science. He has taken many math courses throughout his college career including three calculus courses, discrete mathematics, linear algebra, statistics, geometry, and the theory of computer science. Andrew is also a member of the Honors College with a 4.0 GPA. He will be graduating at the end of the year and beginning a career in Software Development. Andrews hobbies include playing video games, enjoying live music, and learning about math and science. Andrew makes math fun and finds great joy in seeing students as they grow during their time at Mathnasium.
Carter Colton, Instructor
Carter Colton is a high school senior who has a passion for teaching. He has completed AP Calculus BC. Carter plans to go to college with a major in Physics. His hobbies include reading, writing, hanging out with friends, and sharing his knowledge with others. Carter believes that being patient when teaching is extremely important. When tutoring at Mathnasium he always finds ways to not only teach but he learns from his students as well.
Joella Edwards, Instructor
Joella Edwards is a high school sophomore at Deer Valley High School and is currently enrolled in Pre Calculus Honors. Joella participates in student government and is active in theatre at her school. When Joella is at Mathnasium she enjoys tutoring kids of all ages.
Mathew Newcomb, Instructor
Mathew is currently a senior at Mountain Ridge High School. He is taking AP statistics and sharing his knowledge with the students at Mathnasium. He will attend college with a major in Business. Mathews hobbies include playing basketball and other sports for fun. He was also apart of his High school baseball team.
Mathew Toole, Instructor
Matt Toole is a student at Sandra Day O'Connor High School. He has completed AP Calculus AB. He plans to attend college with a Masters degree in Finance. When Mathew is not teaching at Mathnasium he enjoys spending time outside. His true passion is working with music, singing, or playing one of his favorite instruments, the guitar, piano or ukulele.
Gurbeen Dadiala, Instructor
Gurbeen is a senior at Sandra Day O'Connor High School. She is currently taking AP Calculus BC and is a board member of her Speech and Debate club. She achieved a score of 770 points out of 800 points on the math portion of the SAT's. Gurbeen's hobbies include playing with her Huskey and Corgi mixed puppy named Laado, running track and field at school, drawing, and photography.
Theresa Chappell, Instructor
Theresa is a student at Arizona State University. She is currently on track to receive her Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. She enjoys seeing the students at Mathnasium get excited about math. When Theresa is not in school or studying she loves to draw and explore with her Lab puppy named Precious while on hikes.
Mason Roberts, Instructor
Mason Roberts is currently a freshman enrolled at Glendale Community College. He is taking Calculus II and in his spare time, he is writing a collection of fantasy and science fiction short stories. Mason is a great piano player. He enjoys teaching students at Mathnasium because kids are always smarter than you think they are.
Katelynn Jones, Instructor
Katie is a student at Glendale Community college. She will be transferring to Arizona State University with a major in Mathematics. She not only tutors students at Mathnasium but at GCC. She tutors college students in various math classes including Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, Trigonometry, and Calculus. In her free time, Katie enjoys playing with her puppy named Grey and watching horror films.
Katelyn Sturgis, Instructor
Katelyn is a student at BASIS Peoria and is taking math classes including AP Calculus. Katelyn is looking forward to moving into the medical field. She is in the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and the National Speech and Debate Association. She has been tutoring students of all ages since elementary school. Katelyn's hobbies include playing the piano and spending time with her family.
