Emma Wallisch

Center Director
Emma grew up in St. Paul and graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Math, Education, and Sociology/Anthropology from St. Olaf College in 2022. She taught 6th grade before ending up at Mathnasium. She loves working with students in a more behind-the-scenes role, so this position is perfect for her. Her favorite thing about math is that it helps you understand the world around you. When she is not working at Mathnasium, she spends time with her two cats, Chickadee and Zetsu, and her dog Frankie. She loves crossword puzzles and has been doing the New York Times daily crossword every day for almost two years!

Dennis Gilbert

Asst Center Director
Dennis grew up in Bloomington MN but now lives in Andover MN. Dennis earned an AA at Anoka Ramsey community college and has over 6 years of math tutoring experience. Dennis loves being a full-time math tutor. His favorite thing about math is that it helps develop critical thinking. He says math is everywhere and it is the tool that helps us unlock the biggest mysteries of the world. When Dennis isn't tutoring he likes to play video games and juggle.

Bryce

Lead Instructor
Bryce grew up in Blaine and currently resides there with his parents and two sisters. Bryce graduated from Spring Lake Park High School and has delayed college until he figures out if he wants to be a math teacher. That is one of the reasons he is working at Mathnasium. He enjoys finding tricks/short cuts in math that makes the problems simpler or more intuitive. He was the captain of his high school math team and they made it to state 2 times. When not at Mathnasium you will find Bryce playing video games, reading, anime, or doing math. A little known fact about Bryce is that in high school he played video games professionally.

Amelia

Instructor
Amelia grew up and currently lives in Blaine. She attends Centennial High School. She has another job working at Pizza T. She eventually would like to be a concept artist. When Amelia is not in school, at Mathnasium, or at Pizza T you might find her doing one of her many hobbies; Art, character design, playing hockey, or skateboarding. She says math is important because it is useful in day to day life. She has also been able to use math to gain college credits while still in high school. A little known fact about Amelia is that she used to be a student at Mathnasium of Blaine. Now she is using what she learned to teach other students.

Bethel

Instructor
Bethel grew up in Little Canada before kindergarten, then moved to Blaine, the city she now resides in with her younger sister and parents. She currently attends Blaine High School and her career objective is to attend college in Boston and obtain a doctorate degree in environmental science and engineering. Bethel aspires to work alongside other scientists and engineers to combat the world’s most pressing problems–issues that are both environmental- and humanitarian-related. Her hobbies include hiking, reading, traveling, floral craft-making, playing the piano, and playing her violin and cello in orchestral ensembles. Her favorite thing about math is how relevant it becomes in other fields in life, especially in STEM fields. It eliminates many of the mysteries that come with experiments, observations, and calculations that would have not made sense without a good math background, for this has certainly been the case for her. Due to math’s importance in other academic subjects, Bethel looks forward to helping students strengthen their math foundation to eventually help them in their future academic studies and careers. A little-known fact about her is she is simultaneously an active participant in six extracurriculars at her school, ranging from Speech to national business competitions (BPA) to being the president of their community service club.

Mariam

Instructor
Mariam grew up and currently lives in Blaine. She is the oldest of 4 and she currently attends Blaine High School but is doinf PSEO through Anoka-Ramsey Community College. She plans to go to a University after she graduates and would like to get a degree in genetics. She would like to be a geneticist. When not at shool or Mathnasium you will find Mariam reading books, going on walks, baking, rollerblading or diving. She says "math encourages logical reasoning and is used in other subjects like science and even art." She loves that "Oh so that's how you do it" moment when working with kids. A favorite quote of hers is: "If you're not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you're determined to learn, no one can stop you." A little know fact about Mariam is she used to be a student at Mathnasium of Blaine. She also has 3 siblings, and 4 cousins who currently attend Mathnasium of Blaine.

Zayd

Instructor
Zayd currently lives in Blaine with his parents, sister and a cat named Teddy. Zayd is a senior at Irondale and plans to eventually pursue a career as a biomedical engineer. When not at Mathnasium you will find Zayd playing soccer, particpating in his math team, or going thrifting. He loves math because it has a level of creativity and uniqueness to it because people can use different thinking processes and methods to reach the same answer. He says: "Having a good math education is vital in situations where problem solving and rational thinking is required. For example, a good math education can help properly budget you finances or give the correct percentage for a tip." He looks forward to helping students that are struggling with the standard system that schools use to teach math, which is often not sufficient, because each individual learns differently. A little known fact about Zayd is that he can solve a Rubik's Cube in under 30 seconds.

Bob

Instructor
Bob is a graduate of Coon Rapids High School, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from St. Thomas University in St. Paul. He retired after a 40-year engineering career that focused on equipment safety and reliability. He raised 5 children and now enjoys his six grandchildren. He relishes games and puzzles, astronomy, vocal music, and canoeing. Bob applies math to his musical pursuits. Working at Mathnasium has reminded Bob of some of the Math he forgot decades ago. He enjoys watching kids grow their math power.
