Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Lauren Martin

Lead Instructor
By day, Lauren is a substitute math teacher at Princess Anne High School. By night, she is a Lead Instructor at Mathnasium. Lauren graduated Randolph-Macon College with a Bachelor's degree in...you guessed it, Mathematics (with a minor in theater)! In the rare instance she's not studying or teaching math, Lauren enjoys crafting, journaling, snuggling with her cats, and baking unconventionally-flavored cookies.

Rachael Lowell

Lead Instructor
Rachael is a Virginia Beach native. She is also Alumni of both Math and Science Academy and Old Dominion University. Rachael graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics. Following graduation, she accepted a DOD position, but could not give up her passion for teaching math. Working part time at Mathnasium gives Rachael the opportunity to do what she loves while still having the weekends to enjoy personal hobbies like yoga, the beach, and outdoor activities!

Steve Noffsinger

Instructor
Steve loves teaching math, and has been doing so for many years. He currently teaches at various colleges as well as with the team at Mathnasium. He is highly skilled in upper level math topics, and could surprise you with math knowledge at any moment! Other hobbies of his include whittling soap and skipping stones. You might be surprised at how much math can be used in those activities!

Martha Donoghue

Lead Instructor
Martha is one of our lead instructors and has a degree in Mechanical Engineering. She has worked as an engineer in manufacturing and design, taught computer-aided design and drafting to adults, and taught elementary school students. Martha leads a Girl Scout troop, teaches archery and hatchet throwing. She also enjoys knitting. If you have visited Mathnasium at SVB, you have likely seen Martha instructing, and helping things flow smoothly.

Jim Giordano

Instructor
Jim's personal experience is outstanding! He received his BS in Chemical Engineering from SUNY at Buffalo, and his MS in Chemical Engineering from Ohio State University. He had not taught math before this, but he did teach Chemistry at both TCC and Norfolk State University. He has a passion for helping animals and is a Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator and Wildlife Rescuer by the Virginia DWR. Not to mention, he loves sports and plays tennis. He enjoys helping people understand topics, especially math and chemistry, that they otherwise have trouble understanding. That’s why he came here to Mathnasium.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
