Christian Samarripa

Assistant Center Director

  • About Christian: I was born and raised in San Antonio. I went to UTSA and got a mathematics degree. I'm a huge baseball fan (Go Braves) and I used to run cross country (my fastest mile is 4:42).

  • Hobbies: Video games, sports, collector

  • Favorite Math Joke: Who was the inventor of the fraction? Henry the Eighth.

Hillary Martinez

Instructor

  • About Hillary: Graduated from UTRGV with a bachelor’s in Mathematics and a Math 7-12 teaching certificate. I hope to one day go back to school for my master’s and start an organization or school that focuses on educational equity and provides all students with the chance to succeed.

  • Hobbies: Spending time with my dog and/or family, traveling, playing sports, being out in nature, thinking, learning, and being crafty

  • Favorite Math Joke: What do you call an angle that’s gone through the garbage disposal? A wrecked-angle. :D

Huyana Phan

Instructor

  • About Huyana: I am originally from San Jose, California. Currently, I am a high school student at Health Careers High School and in the NHS program for math. I'm a huge sucker for anything thrilling from movies to rollercoasters, and I also hope to join the medical field one day, although I have to say, science is not my favorite subject! :D

  • Hobbies: Reading, watching any shows from Spanish or American T.V. to sports (especially NBA) to Kdrama and anime, and hanging out with friends and family.

  • Favorite Math Joke: Why was six afraid of seven? Because seven eight nine!

Blanca Bryant

  • About Blanca: I first joined the Mathnasium family as a student in grades 8-12. In May 2023, I graduated from the Christian School at Castle Hills with 31 credits from Colorado Christian University. I am majoring in Psychology, hoping to become a counselor. Last, but not least, I'm a huge fan of "The Lion King." Love everything about it! :D

  • Hobbies: Hanging out with friends and/or family, drawing, listening to music, swimming, and watching shows/movies about animals, cooking competitions, and superheroes (team Marvel)

  • Favorite Math Joke: What did the right side of the number line say to the left side? "Why are you always so negative?!"

Gianna Vara

  • About Gianna: I've been a part of the Mathnasium family since I was in 5th grade. I'm a homeschool student on track to graduate a year early from high school with my associate's degree from Alamo Colleges. I'm currently getting my prerequisites for nursing school, hoping to one day work in the pediatric ICU. I love to travel and explore new places!

  • Hobbies: Playing piano, going to the gym, traveling, being with my friends and family

  • Favorite Math Joke: Why was the equal sign so humble? Because it knew it wasn't less than or greater than anyone else!

Hope Gutierrez

  • About Hope: I am a returning Mathnasium Instructor. Math has been my favorite subject for forever and I felt like something was missing from my day job so I just had to come back. I've always enjoyed math tutoring and I can't wait for the start of the new school year!

  • Hobbies: I like to play softball and do photography

  • Favorite Math Joke: What did the acorn say when it grew up? *Pause for dramatic effect* Ge-om-e-try! (Gee, I'm a tree!)

  • About Sydni: I'm a math enthusiast who earned both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Ole Miss. Originally from Tennessee, I recently moved to the San Antonio Area and am eager to return to the world of math education!

Brianna Garrett

  • About Brianna: I'm a high school senior who's always had a passion for math. I'm excited to teach math, cultivate a desire for learning, and learn something new everyday.

  • Hobbies: During my free time I enjoy reading, I'm involved in math UIL, I volunteer at NAMI, and I go to church.

  • Favorite Math Joke: Why do plants hate math? Because it gives them square roots!
