Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. Tommy Ericson, Center Director
Tommy is the Center Director at Mathnasium of Ankeny. Prior to opening his Mathnasium center, Tommy owned a specialty baby retail store, trained as an actuary, and worked as an aerospace engineer. He has an MS in Physics from University of Oklahoma and a BS in Math & Physics from University of Central Arkansas. He has taught and tutored adults and children of all ages, and he is committed to bringing the Mathnasium Method to the children in the community.
Jackson Wald
Jackson is a student at Ankeny high school and will graduate in 2021. In his free time, he likes to work on writing computer programs. Jackson’s favorite number is the constant e because it shows up in all sorts of different types of problems from compound interest to probability. Jackson’s favorite math joke is: There are 10 types of people in the world - those who understand binary, those who don’t, and those who didn’t expect this joke to be in base 3.
Chloe Frazier
Chloe is currently at Iowa State University studying for a Bachelor’s in Mathematics and a Secondary Education License. She plans to graduate in the Spring of 2022. In her free time she enjoys spending time outdoors - specifically running and swimming. Chloe's favorite number is 4 because it was her number in sports as she grew up. Her favorite math joke is: What do you call a number that can’t keep still? A roamin’ numeral.
Sully Fitzgerald
Sully is currently studying at DMACC and will transfer to Iowa State Universityin the fall of 2020, where he will work on earning his BS in Mathematics Education. In his free time he enjoys playing the guitar, going to Campus Fellowship in Ankeny, and lifting weights. His favorite number is 7, because it’s simply the best. His favorite math joke is: Why did 7 eat 9? Because you’re supposed to eat 3 squared meals a day.
Dumindu Jayasekera
Dumindu is a graduate from Utah State University in Water Resources. He enjoys listening to music and biking in his spare time. His favorite number is 18 because he was born in November 18. His favorite math joke is: Why does a pizza hate a cutter? Because it will lose a Pi.
Ryan F
Ryan is currently taking summer classes in math and physics at Harvard. He plans to major in mathematics after graduating high school. Ryan's favorite number is 2 because it's the only even prime number. His favorite math joke is: Why is 6 afraid of 7? Because 7,8,9.
