Conquering the Summer Slide: The Mathnasium Solution

Apr 13, 2021 | Beaumont

With Summer just around the corner, it's only natural to want to breathe a sigh of relief and turn our attention away from Zoom classes and hybrid schedules and on to warm weather and well-deserved fun with our little ones. However, we shouldn’t encourage our kids to swap their binders for pool noodles, at least not completely - hard work is still ahead of them, and us!

Seasonal learning loss, also known as the “summer slide” is nothing new, and can be an annual worry for educators and parents alike! But this is not a typical year. Already, students forget some of their previously learned material and concepts during this period, due to the absence of academic engagement. The COVID slide goes beyond just academic learning loss, it exacerbates this setback.

Most children have gaps in their math foundation even during the best of times; trying to learn math online with a classroom of other students and/or not having a continuous school schedule during the week is an almost insurmountable challenge.

It is not our intention to highlight the “doom and gloom” of the COVID slide, but to actually do the exact opposite, and offer you in center assistance and at home tips that will help your child avoid the dreaded COVID slide.

This month we will be sharing how you can help your kids stay ahead with Mathnasium, support them while they are at home, and create a stress-free learning environment. So STAY TUNED!
