Q: Why did you choose to own a Mathnasium center? A: My wife Kathryn and I were both involved in owning and working for various consulting firms in the DC area, and were looking to make a change in our careers. I have always been interested in math education and owning my own business, so the opportunity with Mathnasium seemed to be a great fit!
Q: What do you like about the city your Mathnasium center is located in? A: Bethesda is a vibrant community, with a lot of students to serve. As a resident of the area, I was familiar with the local schools, as my own children attended local MCPS and private schools.
Q: Can you think of any way that your center has positively impacted the community that it’s located in? A: Mathnasium has provided not only a place for students to build their math skills and confidence, we've worked to positively impact the community through hosting various Math Nights and other school events with local PTAs, as well as supported community fairs and events, such as Imagination Bethesda and Taste of Bethesda. At these fairs and events, we provided math games and projects for children of all ages.
Q: Did you like math when you were in grade school? A: Yes, I always liked math in school, and love a good challenge. I especially liked geometry, as it seemed to be easy for me to envision and work with geometric shapes.
Q: What do you think you would have liked most about Mathnasium if you had attended when you were in grade school? A: The experience of success and confidence that it would have given me and the personal rapport with caring instructors.
Q: One last question, what’s something fun you enjoy doing in Bethesda? A: My wife Kathryn and I love anything involving the water. You'll frequently find us swimming, boating, or just enjoying being outside near the water. In Bethesda, we enjoy the wide variety of restaurants and community events.
