Dan Hintz, Regional Director, Part Owner
Dan has always had a passion for helping people achieve their potential and a calling to teach math. After high school, he earned an Associate of Science degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, before deciding to serve in the military. He served an Air Force tour in Germany as an F-16 fighter jet mechanic and fell in love with the mission and people. He decided to make the Air Force career and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Math at Central Washington University, while attending ROTC. He holds several Master of Science degrees related to his Air Force career. Dan served 22 years in the Air Force, leading thousands of men and women and managing a wide range of logistics programs, including the US President’s Air Force One fleet requirements, and many types of combat aircraft. He retired to spend more time with his wife and 6 children and to begin a lifelong dream of teaching math. He was voted Teacher of the Year by his high school students and earned 100% top ratings as a private tutor. Meanwhile, he was searching for why math seemed so easy to people in other countries, but was such a challenge to many Americans. He found the answer at Mathnasium and immediately joined in helping all students gain a true number sense and life-long confidence in math. He has taught, tutored and coached thousands of youth all his adult life. Dan and his team are committed to helping students grow their math skills and giving them the confidence to be or do whatever they want in life!
Kelsie Kitz, Center Director
Kelsie graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a Bachelor’s in Environmental Studies, and is currently attending Boise State University to pursue a second degree in Music Education. Before becoming the Center Director for the South East Mathnasium Branch, she worked in environmental nonprofit for a short time, but missed teaching far too much to stay away! Her favorite part of teaching is the ah-ha moment students experience once they overcome a struggle. Outside of Mathnasium, she works as a leadership instructor for the Timberline High School Marching Band program. In her free time, Kelsie teaches skiing at Brundage, and plays ultimate frisbee.
Noora Muhamad, Assistant Center Director
Noora is currently attending Boise State University, double majoring in Economic Analytics and Mathematics. She has been part of this team for nearly two years, starting off as an instructor, but has stepped up to be a lead. She enjoys helping students build confidence in math, and walking them through problems, step by step, to ensure they understand the concepts. In her free time, Noora enjoys hiking and biking throughout Boise, as well as relaxing with her family and friends. In the future, she is potentially interested in running her own Mathnasium center.
Reed Brown, Owner
Reed has always loved math and enjoys helping kids learn to love math and how to use math in their daily lives. Reed earned a BS of Electrical Engineering degree from Brigham Young University and a Masters of Business Administration degree at Boise State University. Reed has spent over 25 years as a successful engineering and operations executive at Hewlett Packard, Quantum, and Iomega. In 2004, he decided to test his entrepreneurial skills and created Matchbin (now Radiate Media), a successful internet software company.
Reed worked for Hewlett Packard in Boise for 15 years where he raised his family. Reed loves the Boise area and felt that by opening a Math Learning Center in the Treasure Valley he could give back to the community where his kids grew up. Reed opened his first Mathnasium in Utah in January, 2013 and his team has helped over 1500 students improve their grades and increase their confidence in math.
Bob Johnson, Instructor
Before traveling across the United States to become an instructor for Mathnasium, Bob attended Don Bosco College, on the East Coast, earning his Bachelor’s in Philosophy. Afterwards he joined the Masters Program at Boise State University to earn his Graduate degree in Instructional & Performance Technology. With a passion for education, Bob worked in the Challis School District for a number of years, teaching math at the high school level, and eventually moved on to work for Micron up until 2009. Missing working with kids, Bob joined Mathnasium where he enjoys his time helping students understand word problems. In his free time, Bob is a wonderful handyman, and enjoys woodworking projects.
Donovan Di Dio, Lead Instructor
A graduate of Timberline’s class of 2013, Donovan is now a senior at Boise State University, working towards a degree in Mathematics, along with two teaching certificates in Math and Communication. Donovan aspires to be a High School math teacher because he loves helping students understand and appreciate mathematics. Before joining Mathnasium, he worked in customer service and sales for a year. Outside of math, Donovan is passionate about debate, and is currently an assistant coach for both Timberline’s and Capital High’s debate teams. Alongside his dream of becoming a teacher, he would also like to become a high school debate coach.
Steven Tran, Instructor
Another Timberline alumni, Steven graduated high school in the top 1% of his graduating class. During his time at Timberline, Steven was involved with the DECA, and captained the Science Bowl Team for a number of years. He is currently attending Boise State University, pursuing a double major in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. Before joining Mathnasium, Steven volunteered, throughout high school, at the Discovery Center of Idaho where he tutored students in math and science. Steven joined Mathnasium if the goal of helping students gain mastery in new math concepts, and to inspire them to build confidence in their own math abilities.
Chris Goodwin, Instructor
Chris discovered his love of math later than most, taking until his first semester of college physics to understand exactly how awesome math can be. As such a late bloomer in math, Chris feels strongly about helping his students at Mathnasium find their own love of math, and hopefully with fewer struggles than he had. Chris has been tutoring mathematics, in one form or another for about 16 years.
Lydia Meredith, Instructor
Lydia graduated from UC San Diego. She obtained perfect math test scores and has several years of teaching experience since her days as a student. After relocating to Boise she continues to enjoy helping adolescents of all levels to become independent learners. Her hobbies include playing tennis and taking care of her pet guinea pigs.
Tanisha Khurana, Instructor
I am thrilled to be a part of Mathnasium. I graduated from Timberline High School in 2014 and just graduated from The College of Idaho in May with a bachelor's in Biology, minoring in health professions, Spanish, and psychology. I have been involved with tutoring for many years and I think it is such a rewarding experience! I love to stay active- whether it is biking, hiking, or dancing. I have been doing Bollywood dance for the past 10 years.
Seth Richardson, Instructor
Seth is a senior at Bishop Kelly High School, and is passionate about physics, medicine, and community work. He is a life-long lacrosse player, and the President of Club Unify at Bishop Kelly. When he's not at work or school, you can find him snowboarding, drawing, or working on his new instrument, the guitar! He loves teaching at Mathnasium because it provides two things he can't find in the classroom -- the ability to share his love of learning, and the ability to help those who seek knowledge.
Brett Flerchinger, Instructor
Brett is a senior at Bishop Kelly High School, and is currently taking both AP Statistics and AP Calculus in school. He has always been interested in math, and plans to study statistics in college with either a business or computer programming minor. In his off-time, Brett trains for cross country and long distance track, both of which he has made the State Championships in!
Amanda Hancock, Instructor
Amanda is currently attending Boise State University, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Biology. She is in her Junior year and taking math courses and working as a lead instructor at Mathnasium serves as a much needed break from all her science courses. Amanda especially enjoys working with the students, her favorite thing is making them smile! When she isn’t tutoring math or studying biology she is probably spending time with her family and friends, hiking, or reading a good book.
