Ann Yurkowitz, Center Director
Welcome! I’m Ann Yurkowitz, the Center Director for Mathnasium of Brookfield. I have a passion and love for teaching and mentoring students. After learning about the Mathnasium Method from my sons who are energetic Mathnasium instructors, I knew Mathnasium was the perfect home for me. I work to develop a true partnership among the student, parents, school, and Mathnasium staff to provide the support a student needs to develop and improve math understanding and achievement. Mathnasium is meaningful to me because students make impressive gains in math, but also improve self-confidence, homework habits, and attitudes toward school. I graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington with a degree in Elementary Education, and spent 26 years teaching in the classroom. When I’m not at Mathnasium, I enjoy riding my Cruiser bike, playing cards, and traveling with my family.
Rohita Shah, Owner
Hello! I'm Rohita Shah the owner of Mathnasium of Brookfield. Currently, I am the center director and owner of Mathnasium of Whitefish Bay. Prior to opening the Whitefish Bay center, I enjoyed working as a project associate for the American Orthopaedic Association. I have a Master’s degree in Bioengineering from University of Illinois. With a background in Orthopaedic Research, I managed a Gait Analysis Laboratory at Rush University Medical Center for several years before deciding to stay home to raise my children. With my own children, I experienced both the frustrations of math and the rewards of overcoming the challenges through the Mathnasium Method. Therefore, I'm passionate about helping every child truly understand math by teaching it in the way that makes sense to them. More importantly, I'm committed to bringing the Mathnasium Method to the children in the community.
Chris, Assistant Center Director
Howdy! My name is Chris and I study engineering at UW Milwaukee. I love designing things and figuring out how stuff works. My dream is to one day design a rollercoaster, even if I have to build it in my own backyard :) When I’m not at school or work, I like going to the movies, playing games, and building Legos. Growing up, I was lucky to have some excellent teachers that instilled in me a lifetime love for learning that I hope to pass on to the next generation.
Amber, Lead Instructor
Guten Tag! My name is Amber and I’m a junior at UW-Whitewater. I’m a Chemistry major with an emphasis in Biochemistry and Music hoping to become a Veterinary Surgeon or Anesthesiologist Assistant. Ever since my brother was born paralyzed I have developed a passion for helping students reach their full potential and changing as many lives as possible. I also teach kids instrumentally for the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) and theatrically for Children’s Theater. My hobbies include math, playing violin/cello/piano, drawing, volunteering, sports, and of course laughing (so come to me with any jokes). Fun fact: a pizza that has a radius “z” and height “a” has volume Pi*z*z*a. Working at Mathnasium is an honor and I look forward to enhancing kids’ math skills through 96.95% instruction and 3.05% jokes.
Hi, my name is George. I’ve been a financial controller for small businesses for much of my work life, but I taught high school math for three years—one in Milwaukee at a charter school and two in the Los Angeles public school system. I graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in philosophy but completed 18 credits of honors courses in math. Math was my favorite subject in high school and I was a member of the Mu Alpha Theta math society and competed in several statewide competitions. I have lived in various cities in the US and abroad including Miami, New York, Los Angeles and Montevideo, Uruguay. Sports have always been a passion of mine. I’m an avid golfer and was on my high school tennis team. I follow most major professional and college sports closely and am a big fan of the Badgers, Golden Eagles, Packers, Brewers and Bucks. Scrabble, chess and listening to music (especially jazz and Bob Dylan) are also strong interests of mine. I live in Wauwatosa with my wife Serrana.

In school, I’m the president of my class, and also a member of DECA, forensics, math club, and more. Outside of school, I run my own a small clothing business, and when I’m free, spend my time reading, playing basketball, or hanging out with friends. In the future, I plan to go to medical school and become a retinal ophthalmologist. For now, I look forward to getting to know and instructing the future generation of mathemeticians here at Mathnasium!

Hello! I’m Larry and I am a semi-retired WCTC instructor who joined the Mathnasium staff in July, 2019. I retired in 2015, but I am still teaching part-time. I graduated from Marquette University, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked in the Milwaukee area in quality control and manufacturing engineering positions. After I joined WCTC, I provided onsite training for employees at many companies, was involved in self-paced, individualized courses on campus, and supported our quality improvement teams. I transferred to the Math department, where I taught a variety of Math courses. While in the Math department, I completed 12 graduate credits in Mathematics at Marquette. I enjoy seeing students gain knowledge and skills in Math, and the confidence that comes along with that growth. It is great to see the enthusiasm of the students and staff at Mathnasium. The students are eager to learn as they complete the worksheets in their learning plans. I like to keep a light, relaxed tone and know that humor can add to creating and maintaining a good learning environment. I follow the main professional and college sports, along with news and business trends.I live in Brookfield with my wife Joyce.
Hello! My name is Becca and I’m a senior at Pewaukee High School. I’m so excited to share my love of math with all of you! I am a Finance major at Marquette University and am graduating in the Spring of 2020. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago in Gurnee, IL. Since a kid, I have loved working with numbers in an array of different settings: from memorizing football stats, to calculus, to discounting cash flows. I am a person who likes to consider myself in the constant process of learning. While I have learned a lot thus far, I am aware that there is so much left to go. What I like about Mathematics is the tangibility that it provides. When an answer is real and can be communicated via numbers, I believe that this process of learning becomes easier. My goal is to develop and help others to develop a systematic approach to a problem, drawing back on previous ways which that same problem had been expressed in different terms. When a difficult problem is presented in life, not just math-related, there are a series of actions a person takes to approach that problem. Approaching a problem the right way can both alleviate fears of failure as well as dictate chances of success. I am someone who wants to get better at this as well as help other to do the same.
Hi! My name is Maanya, and I am currently a senior at Hamilton High School. I love learning, and I always take the opportunity to learn as much as I can whether I am in school or not. In April, my freshman year, I became an international champion for DECA, a 300,000 member competitive organization that exposes high school students across the globe to the business world. I currently am a member of the Wisconsin DECA state board. I am so excited to be a member of Mathnasium and to instill my love for learning in other students!

Outside of math, I am a huge movie fanatic and enjoy football and basketball.
