Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Zenia P.

Instructor
Zenia recently graduated from UCLA with a BA in Psychology and a minor in mathematics. Although she thoroughly enjoyed studying and learning about the human mind and how it affects human behavior, she could not let go of her interest in math. The math classes at UCLA definitely put to test her math skills and many times experienced a love-hate-relationship with math. She sees math like a puzzle; it is frustrating when you are trying to figure it out and understand how to put the pieces together, but once they all click together it brings great joy. She wishes to help other students understand and see math from a different perspective. This way they can work through that frustration and share in some of the joy she gets from the subject. Zenia’s next career step may be getting her teaching credentials to become a high school math teacher. Therefore, she is happy to have the opportunity to work at Mathnasium in order to help students and to get more exposure to teaching. In addition to studying math, Zenia enjoys swimming, salsa dancing and dark chocolate. She also spends her Sunday mornings going on hikes. Her favorite movies are Pretty Women and The Matrix trilogy. Her favorite books are Gone with the Wind and The Harry Potter series. She has visited Guatemala, Alaska, South Carolina and wishes to one day be able to see London and Barcelona. Zenia was born and raised in the Valley, but her ethnicity is half-Mexican, half-Guatemalan and speaks Spanish fluently.

Instructor
I am a current UCLA student, majoring in psychobiology. Despite my major, I have always found math to be one of the most interesting subjects. At UCLA, I took modeling classes where I learned to apply concepts of differentiation to epidemiology, and I have found, through that series of classes, that the application of math to real-life models is even more gratifying than I believed. I like to teach math so that I could spread my enthusiasm for the subject and prove that even though it’s not an easy journey, it’s definitely one that’s rewarding and worthwhile. After receiving my B.S. in psychobiology, I intend to go on to medical school and find my place in the medical world. Besides my love for math, I also enjoy writing poetry, reading fiction novels, drawing, and trying Boba from different places.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
