Mathnasium was created to fill a need. The need, which was obvious to Larry Martinek, was the struggle kids experienced in math class. The language of math, the pacing of the class, and textbook teaching styles all seemed to culminate in frustrated learners. Larry, an educator himself, knew that the system could improve… so he started improving it!
"He (Larry) taught mathematics in public and private schools, gang-reduction programs, and gifted youth groups before co-founding Mathnasium in 2001." (Read more here) These years of experience as a teacher (and parent) primed Larry to create the patented Mathnasium Method, the driving force behind every Mathnasium centre.
In the spring of 2002, the first Mathnasium centre opened in Westwood, California. Today, there are more than 1,000 thriving Mathnasium centres worldwide. These developments exist because kids continue to need help with math and the Mathnasium method continues to deliver real results.
